Eichman and McVeigh did get a trial, though. As emotionally understandable as it would have been, don't you think it would have defeated one of the points if the Mossad squad that captured the former had been a hit squad instead of capturing him and putting him on trial in Jerusalem? And leaving aside different stances on the death penalty, doesn't McVeigh illustrate you can deal with a terrorist responsible for many deaths within the justice system? (As opposed to Guantanomo, hit squads and drones.) So when Spock argues to Kirk that no matter what "Harrison" has done, he should get a trial, and the narrative as well as Kirk eventually come down on his side, this to me was a powerful statement at this particular point.
Orci: hadn't heard about the 9/11 thing, and don't think I want to (though ironically we have some people from the opposite side of the political spectrum - i.e. radical lefties - here who think that - i.e. that it was all staged and organized by the American goverment in order to get an invasion going - but that's decidedly a nutter fringe opinion).
