I wonder if this isn't a problem that could be cleared up by a franker depiction of sex in all forms of media. Often when those couples exist in my RL, post breakup the phrase 'but the sex was AMAZING' gets uttered. Personally, I don't think it works much after the age of say, mid-20s, but maybe...
