Current every day reality perhaps, but in two of the historical shows I mentioned, the social power of the women in question over the male - and female - characters in question was absolute, due to the whole slave owning society. I.e. for the male characters to refuse would literally mean their deaths. OUAT, of course, as a fantasy show has magical means to replace the historical power structure. Both scenarios are, granted, far less likely to familiar to people from reading the papers or watching the news today, whereas male-on-female rape is sadly only gaining.
Interesting about Flashman, I never read the books. Isn't Flashman itself a rewriting of a previous canon, i.e. taking the villain character from a Victorian novel and making him into the hero?
