Great Maker. You're the first person I know who thinks he was. Well, except for Augustus. Incidentally, I very much doubt he banished Ovid for The Art of Love - that had appeared eight years before, so despite being cited, it was clearly a pretense. BTW, read it in its entirety, it's fun, and also, way ahead of its time since Ovid insists it's as important that the woman enjoys herself as the man does. Plus it must have been refreshing after all the Augustan Uberpropaganda of family values and the mos maiorum and Roman greatness.
The Metamorphoses are probably the most important work, though, so if you haven't read any other Ovid, you should start with it.
