New fanfic, and a question
Aug. 23rd, 2004 05:22 pmThe question first: I need the word "education" in as many languages as possible for a new website. How do I go about finding out? Also, feel free to volunteer translations you happen to know.
Secondly, it's short fic time again as the challenges in
celestial_templ and
thefiringline went into gear. Since I love my space stations (almost) equally, I wrote the DS9 ficlet(s)
"Faith Manages"
and the Babylon 5 ficlet
"Rumpelstilzchen".
Come on, someone had to compare Morden to said fairy tale figure, and it was a good title. The B5 one is all Narn, all the time (well, except for a certain insinuation this Centauriphile had to make), and the DS9 one about Rob's favourite cleric in all the universe, Kai Winn.
In other news, I finally have an X-Men icon, beautifully made for me by
penknife! And things are going fine on the RL front, I'm happy to say.

Date: 2004-08-23 09:31 am (UTC)I found them via this site: your dictionary.com (http://www.yourdictionary.com/languages.html). This takes you to a table of languages. Click on a language link and you'll see whatever they have on the language group. It isn't a translating tool. Once you get to the language group list, then your work starts.
Some links are broken, some take you to word lists that you have to scroll through, some are just weird and of no help at all. Others won't be of much help unless you have the special fonts downloaded. But still - when you get a hit, you score!

*off to read the Morden fic* *g*

Date: 2004-08-23 12:20 pm (UTC)Anyway, since I can't think of a word that would correnspond 'education' completely, I'm giving a few different ones. I hope one of them is what you're looking for.
'koulutus' = formal education, what you end up with as a result of studying
'opettelu' = the process of learning
'opiskelu' = the process of studying in an institution
'opetus' = a lesson learned

Date: 2004-08-23 12:39 pm (UTC)I think I'll go with "koulutus", since it's supposed to refer to the education you get at a school.
