Meanwhile...
Dec. 18th, 2014 06:53 pmFinished the Yuletide treat as well and sent it off to be beta'd. Phew. I wasn't sure whether I'd manage to finish the story in time this year, and I really wanted to because it's been churning in me for a good long while, and the recipient is a treasure.
Also, post Battle of the Five Armies hurt/comfort fics, because of course yours truly is in the market for them. Just to be on the very safe side, I shall employ a spoiler cut, decades old book or not.
Heartsick: Bilbo-centric. What I most appreciated about it is this: you see the intensity of Bilbo's grief, but you also see him trying to live his post-Quest life (I'm a big fan of stories where on the one hand the enormity of grief isn't downplayed but on the other the characters are trying to get by and, hard as it is, bit by bit, it happens). My second most favourite thing is that it has Dis in it (as in Thorin's sister, Kili's and Fili's mother), who as I once mentioned elsewhere has to be the most "solely mentioned in the family tree, not in the actual book or movies, but fleshed out into a character by fandom" person in Hobbit related fanfiction.
To Faithful Warriors Come: Mahal watches his children go to war, and mourns. Good use of Tolkien Middle Earth mythology to provide an epilogue for Thorin, Fili and Kili.
(I've also spotted two Tauriel post movie stories, but neither them was exactly what I wanted, so I'm still looking.)
