Elementary 4.13 A Study in Charlotte
Feb. 19th, 2016 04:11 pmIn which the episode uses Doyle's German name pun from A Study in Scarlet, but otherwise is notable for the adorable Joan and the neighbour B-plot.
Also, is this how you pronounce König in English? Huh. What with recreational mushroom taking playing a part of the tale, I idly wondered about a Fringe crossover. Meeting Walter Bishop, devoted fan of LSD, would be, err, iiiinteresting for Sherlock (and Joan), for more than the obvious reason.
My main interest in the episode was the B-Plot, though, which was such a neat twist on the "annoying neighbor" cliché (and great use of continuity, because the discovery that the situation was really Sherlock's fault made total sense in terms of what we've been seeing through the last four seasons), and a good character outing for Joan. That she sees people, independent from whether or not she likes them, as people, and thus doesn't accept the convenient way out of the noise problem but figures out a way to help the flowershop owner and to reconcile him, and partly through putting her detective skills to good use, is such a lovely show, not tell way of reminding us how Joan's practicality is married to her good nature. Now I think we have a new recurring character!
