I've seen several people saying today that the eruption of sleazy "satire" and fake-news sites aiming only at lowest-common-denominator and often politically inflammatory clickbaiting has spoiled April Fools stories for them. It reminds me of Tom Lehrer saying that he'd given up comedy because the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Henry Kissinger in 1973 made further political satire impossible.
