No, you didn't miss my 4.19 review, I missed the episode, and only now have caught up with the show.

So Joan has an unexpected relation. The dealing with a half sister she never knew she had - and the idea that her father descended into mental illness/homeless existence later than assumed and had this other family first - could have come across as frightfully soap operatic, but Lucy Liu and the actress who plays Lin (spelling?) sold it to me. I also appreciated it is another take on what this show does very well, characters negotiating boundaries and closeness/distance, making mistakes and trying again. Not to mention that more exploration of Joan's background is always welcome.

Case of the week: eh. One of those which the viewer can't figure out because of the complicated (talk about soap opera) backstory unfolding in the grand expositionary exposure scene, and none of the one shot characters really come to life. Can we bring back Paul Cornell and his ability to make case of the week characters relevant?

Partnership moment of the week: Sherlock trying to make Joan feel better by saying he didn't mind Mycroft faking his death and being two years absent and Joan's reply to that. :)
