Confessions of a Trekker: I really don't like ST VI - The Undiscovered Country. Which is, I've discovered, something of a minority opinion, for at least the vocal part of fandom holds this last cinematic outing of the TOS crew in a fond light. However, now and then the dissent becomes vocal, too, as in this rewatch post about the movie in question .

(Every now and then I wish the movies instead of going for the nth version of Wrath of Khan (with or without a villain called Khan) would tackle the Cardassians instead. And then I conclude the movies would probably mishandle the Cardassians as badly as they did the Romulans, and am glad the Cardassians so far have been reserved for tv.)

And lastly, a BSG fanfic rec:

Rippling Light: tender and heartbreaking take on the friendship of Felix Gaeta and Anastasia Dualla, two characters for whom the phrase "they deserved better" might have been invented.

I admit when I read that article, my reaction was "Did I miss seeing this? I thought I saw every ST movie with the original cast." It wasn't until they talked about "Third star to left, then straight on to morning" and described Uhura searching Romulan dictionaries that I said "Hey, I remember that". So in the end, my verdict is I didn't like it enough to hate remember it. I liked it so little that I just dropped the whole thing from my brain.

ST VI, not IV! For a moment I thought you a whale-hater!

There were parts of this movie I liked very much (the dinner on the Enterprise, the assassination in zero-g) but so much of it felt like a weird, clunky retreat from both the social and technological forethought of the original series and following movies.

I always appreciate when the ST movies include something reminding us we're in space - like the sequence in First Contact - so the zero g assassination worked for me, too. But overall...

I am also not a fan of STVI, so I'm very glad I'm not the only one. The only bit I like is the very end, but I can find that few minute clip on youtube so I need never watch the whole thing again.

Can't seem to watch the vid, and it's blocked on You Tube :-(

Hope this isn't omens for the way this weekend is going to go; already feeling trapped at home, though I do have mah kittehs :-)
