Well, Contessina looks good in anything, but I have a particular soft spot for the purple cloak combination she wears in her big scene here. For the s2 kids, blue works best Giuliano though not always for Lorenzo, let alone Francesco:



…who is better off wearing black. I might complain about her lack of characterisation, but the show puts Simonetta Vespucci in a fantastic array of Botticelli inspired robes. There’s a very awkward cast photo which nonetheless shows off (nearly) everyone’s wardrobe, including a stunner for her:

OMG I didn't recognize him but is that Daniel Sharman from Teen Wolf?

It is indeed. He plays season 2's main character, Lorenzo "Il Magnifico" de' Medici.

I find the costume aspect that always falls flat for me in historical dramas is the men's hairstyles.

They're totally wrong, to the extent that I have difficulty seeing them as historical characters.

Plus, they always slant the costumes heavily toward modern styles. You'll be lucky to see a ruff, or a lace collar on a man, and as for hose and a shapely calf....

In most cases true, but not always. John Adams was a historical miniseries where the men actually had historical hair styles (and wore clothing that didn't cater to modern looks). (A Trailer to illustrate. Of course, it helped that their leading man was Paul Giamatti, who actually resembled historical Adams instead of being far better looking.) Charles II: The Power and the Passion also did well in this regard. I mean, they did use the out of postulating that beneath the periwigs, the men wore their natural hair short very short (both for hygeniec reasons and because a periwig is really heavy), and included various "private occasion" scenes of the guys sans their wigs, which helps with actor identification, but that's plausible enough.
