Signups for the Rare Male Slash Exchange/raremaleslashex are still ongoing until Sunday. Of course, I selfishly hope for more signups in the 18th century RPF department, but some other fandoms I'm interested in have more than one volunteer, which makes me glad. And I do need fiction to make me glad, because it makes sense more often than not, and every time I look at the news there's even more insanity going on in all parts of the world. Any decent editor would say: Not so many insane, selfish and irresponsible gits in position of power at the same time! And most of them voted into it, too. And then there's a plague, which they all make even worse. Stop it with the grimdark already!

I want to leave this timeline so very much.

It's really more grimstupid or stupidgrim than traditional grimdark. I'm not sure whether smart or competent grifters in power would make things better or worse at this point, but there certainly wouldn't be this level of grating, in your face lunacy.

WRITER: How about adding some convoluted subplots about PPE contract corruption by evil leader's minions and his son-in-law instead, and armed mobs of conspiracy theorists for some action scenes? We'd have a political thriller/action/crime family crossover appeal on top of the medical pandemic drama. All the genres!
