What awful news to wake up to - Chadwick Boseman has died, of colon cancer, at the age of only 43. Other than the Marvel movies, I'd only seen him in Da Five Bloods, though I will now seek out 42 and the James Brown movie. He had such presence and grace. My favourite scene for him as T'Challa wasn't in The Black Panther, it was in Civil War, near the end - T'Challa and Zemo. T'Challa acting as he does there, coming to that decision as the culmination of his development through the movie, needed a superb actor to convey - he was, and he did.

Obviously, an audience member doesn't know the human being: we can only know the performances, the craft. I'm glad for what we got and helplessly sad at the thought of all the decades he should have had. So young.

42 is a fairly mediocre biopic about a story that has so much inherent drama it's still well worth watching and his performance (and Nicole Beharie's as well) is well worth it.

What a great talent and an equally great loss.

I also recommend Marshall, although it chooses an odd case to single out of Thurgood Marshall's career. Still, he's one of my real-life heroes, and Boseman embodies him very well.
