I was not going to write about the big event of the week yet, but....

...If there is a more perfect melding of fannish interest and political interest relevant to this very moment, I haven't encountered it yet. Back in August this year, David Tennant did a podcast with Stacey Abrams, aka the heroine of the hour (and maybe the year/decade) who was so instrumental in Georgia. As she sounds like a total geek, there's mutual fannishness; they talk Doctor Who and voter suppression alike. My favourite quote, from when he asks her about the coming election:

"I'm not an optimist. I'm the person who says the glass is probably half full, but that half is poisoned. And my job is to find the antidote."

Yeah, I've been thinking about that interview as well this week. It was probably my favourite of this season, really interesting to hear her take on things.

I hope she does run for President in future years, but not before having done even more grassroots organizing. What a woman.

I saw a lovely video of her neerding out about Trek yesterday. I bet she gross-sobbed at the season premiere too!

I hadn't known this video! Very endearing and awesome. I mean, my personal ratings are different, but she's so thoughtful about it, and you can understand where she's coming from in each case.

I saw someone on Twitter say that if the election is Avengers: Endgame then Stacey Abrams is Cap in the scene were everyone walks though the portals, and she absolutely deserves that mantle (and I hope she saw the tweet because I'm sure she'd get that reference.) What she's managed to achieve in Georgia is extraordinary, and moreover I'm hoping it becomes a model for Democrats everywhere - if they can all fight that hard against voter disenfranchisement, they could own the South harder than the Republicans ever have.
