'Tis the Season:

For the second year, due to the pandemic conditions some of the nativity scenes we used to visit in Bamberg were closed, but as last year, people were inventive and found some alternative places in addition to the larger churches which still showed them. Thus: Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and only good thoughts for other friends, with my annual nativitvy scenes pic spam:

St. Martin is one of the churches who still does its nativity. It's the former Jesuit church in Bamberg.

Its take on Bethlehem this year included pandemic allusions. What's attached to both the inn and the stable is the "3G Rule" (meaning you need to be either vaccinated - "Geimpft" - , tested within the last 24 hours - "Getestet" - or recovered - "Genesen"). Have some details:

St. Stephen is a Lutheran Church in a mainly Catholic city. The figurines are the same each year, and no wonder, they had been an original commission from a local artist. This set up mixes not just the nativity itself but also scenes like the flight to Egypt or twelve years old Jesus in the Temple:

Still the clear winner for most detailed, most elaborate nativity depiction, every year: Our Lady (aka the "Obere Pfarre").

It depicts event in a distinctly Franconian Bethlehem, and the details change each year. The dolls are 19th century.

Now, as I said: several of the places that regularly host nativity scenes, like the Maternkirche, were closed this year like last year, because they are too small for safety parameters if groups of people get inside. However, as last year, some of the scenes were instead shown in the shopping windows of stores in the old city centre. They also had a theme: "Welcome among strangers", i.e. the artists were all from different countries, and there was always a short text telling the observer what the current refugee situation in this country is. Some countries were represented twice, like Peru.
Peru nativity scene the first:

Like last year, one of the local shops for antiquities went all out with the beautiful figurines, going for Italy:

Wheres this bronze nativity scene goes for simplicity, and makes Joseph and the shephard(s) one single person:

A nativity scene carved in ebony, from Tanzania:

And another delicatedly carved woodwork:

And now, Peru the second, in a pumpkin, no less, as the conclusion:

In other news: Yuletide is live!
I received two beautiful gifts in the same fandom, to wit, Jo Graham's novel, Stealing Fire, post-novel fic in both cases, since I had asked for the fleshing out and future life of one of the characters who in the novel is still a child:
