LotR: The Rings of Power 1.04.
Sep. 17th, 2022 07:43 amMore extremely busy days, but I did manage the fourth Rings of Power episode and enjoyed it, though due to lack of time my review shall be short.
No Harfoot in sight this time, but the Elrond-Durin-Disa plot thread more than makes up for it. I like everything about it, from Detective Elrond being on the case to Disa’s gorgeous singing to the stone to Durin telling Elrond to keep the bit of Mithril at the end. (Lesson: Mithril related presents, whether it’s Bilbo to Frodo or Thorin to Bilbo, always make for emotional highlights.). Also, Elrond talking to Durin about his father.
Meanwhile in the Southlands: somehow, I doubt that Ardar really IS Sauron, after the big deal they’ve made out of “who’s Sauron hiding as?” Before, or if he is, that he’ll stay Sauron. I have a bad feeling there could be a bodysnatching plot coming up, involving either Theo or Arondir. And I still suspect we might get to see at least one elf getting transformed into an Orc.
Numenor: with a helpful tip from Haldbrand, Galadriel actually manages to connect with Miriel. The visuals from first Miriel’s and then Galadriel’s vision makes the Atlantis parallel for Numenor obvious. Otoh, the whole exercise-in-demagogy scene earlier where xenophobia (well, elf phobia) gets drummed up and then defused has distinct contemporary parallels. Not to mention the whole “why should we help this other nation getting invaded far away from us?” Debate. YMMD, but it works for me. Now that they’ve made me care for Numenor, otoh, I do hope characters other than Isildur (whose fate is canonically protected for now) will survive!
