I spent the last week in Los Angeles, mostly in a conference, working, and in airplanes to and back from the US, since I really could not stay long. However, there were two days where I didn't have a tight schedule, and one of them was spent at the Huntington Gardens, courtesy of [personal profile] cahn who showed them to me. (Yes, despite having once spent three months in L.A. in the 1990s, I never visited them before.) Which makes this: the return of the travelling pic spam:

The Chinese and Japanese styled gardens were undoubtedly the standouts.

Though I also liked the cacti. These in my part of the world have the nickname "mother-in-law-seats", by the way.

And the herb garden next to the Shakespeare-themed garden:

And a few non-garden pictures of LA:

My favourite detail of the Pershing Square in Downtown was the Beethoven statue, looking both odd and fitting amidst US modernity:

And the Last Bookstore, Los Angeles, which is one of my favourite places:

Ohhh Huntington Gardens! I'm glad you got to go! Waaaay back when I first visited LA, a random nice guy in a corner store told my friend and me, "you girls, you know where you should go on an insanely hot day like today? Huntington Gardens!" ... and we were all, "dhhhhpgrhhff what, where?!", assuming he was being weird or fishy, but no! He was simply being nice, and we were mighty glad in the end that we followd his suggestion. I wnet back twice and was thrilled every time. :D

My family used to go to the Huntington Gardens regularly when I lived in Pasadena and we loved the Chinese and Japanese Gardens best. :D Thank you for the lovely photos!
