Pimpin' Away

While RL crashes around me, it's pimping time again.
andrastewhite hasn't enough sign-ups for the Multiverse 2005 yet. Come on, people. Space show (and -movies) crossovers are fun, glorious fun. (And angst, glorious angst.) As I know nothing encourages as much as a bribe, I'd like to point the new people on my friends list (*waves*) and anyone who might have missed it last year to the old archive, where you can find fantastic sci-fi crossovers.
Some of my favourites were "Displaced Persons" (Farscape's Scorpius meets Blake's 7's Kerr Avon, and omg, the punchline), "Crosses and Naughts" (Firefly's Mal meets Farscape's Aeryn, and and a beautiful, snarky, angsty encounter it was), and "Playing Poster Child" (Babylon 5's G'Kar meets Farscape's Zhaan - and the best, most original twist here was that the two don't meet after their respective enlightenments when they're serene philosophers but at a time when they were both bloody-minded, literary). I also loved "Perfect Imperfections", the Scorpius/Seven (of Nine) encounter written for me by
alara_r, which made ever so much sense and was hot to boot.
Mine own humble efforts were: "The One Who Got Away" (DS9's Quark/ Farscape's Chiana, though really it's all about the Quark/Odo snark), "Crossroads" (the two most disliked boys of their fandoms, TNG's Wesley Crusher and SW's Anakin Skywalker, meet, and I get to do my root for and explore the fannish underdog thing), and "Ghost in the Machine" (young Scorpius - does he get around or what? - meets Obi-Wan Kenobi between trilogies). Trying to figure out whom to put in whose universe, what the encounter should be about, and whose perspective to choose was a fun challenge, and I'm grateful I got the assignements I did.
People, I've seen folks wonder how an Aeryn and Starbuck (the Kara Thrace version) encounter would go. How the BSG gang would fare when coming across the Peacekeepers. Wonder no longer - sign up, challenge, write! So say we all.

And speaking of BSG, here is a great Lee vignette, exploring what previous fanfic has neglected, how he feels about his dead family other than Zack, specifically, his mother.
As I'm still on an Alias high, here are two recs: I've said it before, I'll say it again, Lauren in season 4 in absentia is better and more consistently written and used than she was in season 3 when the character was actually on the show. Which is probably the reason why I was actually looking for Lauren fanfic once in a while, and found "Haunted". Even if you didn't care one bit about Ms. Reed last season, have a look. It's worth it.
Then there is "Echoes". On one level Jack/Nadia, but so much more - Jack and his Irina issues, and the fact he still tries to seperate Irina from Laura now and then, and the all the lovely twisted connectedness of the extended SpyFamily.

Date: 2005-04-25 06:51 pm (UTC)Speaking of, have you seen any fic dealing with Kara's mother? IIRC, there were some hints in the interrogation ep about that relationship being unhappy, but I don't recall any other mentions. Might add an interesting dimension to her reaction to Roslin in the finale, as well.
