In Frankfurt, and paying for online time, hence in haste:

BTVS/AtS: some excellent thoughts on the the use of ensemble versus fandom factionism. As the "if you love character X, you must hate character Y" thing ticks me off as well, I was delighted to read this.

New Dr. Who: there will be a Captain Jack spinoff? That's excellent news.

And: Neil Gaiman posts a sonnet, and a beautiful one it is.

[livejournal.com profile] artaxastra posted a new chapter of her Aenaeid inspired saga, but alas, I won't be able to comment until I have time and lengthy online access again, for her stories deserve to be read at leasure. Like chocolate melting in the mouth instead of being munched.

When do you get the chance to see Serenity? 'Cos I've jsut realised that there's a Big Event in it which provides a very fruitful compare-and-contrast with a pivotal moment in Blake's 7, and I'd love to discuss it with you.

It's a date. But they still withhold Serenity from us until November 24th here in Germany.

November 24th? Bloody hell. And then they probably moan about DVD piracy.

(Or is it dubbing/subtitling that takes so long?)

No, it's not. The big blockbusters like Star Wars or War of the Worlds get released simultanously (not that this benefits their dubbing - usually the quality goes up if you have more time) - it's just that no one here has seen the show. And hey - Stage Beauty got released in Germany only at the beginning of this month, a full year after its UK release. I only saw it earlier some months ago because it was included in the Munich film festival.

But it's a trial to remain unspoiled, to be sure.

If you're at the Frankfurter Hof, chances are you can piggyback for free on someone's WiFi network if you just position yourself at your room window...

(Did it last winter...)

Alas no, I'm out of town, in Neu Isenburg (lovely hotel, I get good rates, but it's nowhere anywhere near an office building).

Saw this and thought of you -
Daddy issues in Angel. No, it's probably not what you're thinking :)

That was one brilliant essay. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Further news for you

I know you've seen Who, but for pimping purposes to non-fannish people:

New Who to be broadcast on the Pro7 channel next year. (http://www.livejournal.com/community/doctorwho/515214.html)

Excellent news. I shall spread the word. Pro 7 is one of our better channels (even though they are a bit dumb about genre tv at times - BTVS was broadcast in the afternoon as a teen show right until season 6 at which point someone finally clued in that an evening schedule might be better...), so I hope that means lots of exposure to the Doctor.
