Ten by Ten
Dec. 13th, 2005 11:05 amTen of my favourite characters and what kind of relationship I'd have with them, was it? Alas for my inner Mary Sue, I tend to fall for fictional people who... well, see for yourself.
1) Laura Roslin: I guess I'd volunteer for her election campaign, but I can't see us ever spending time a deux together. Also, if I had no more knowledge about events than your avarage fleet citizen I'd change my opinion and might vote for Zarek post-Home.
2) Darla: would have me for dinner, literaly. End of relationship.
3) Arvin Sloane: my last name isn't Bristow, and I'm not related to him. If he found me useful in any capacity, he might make an effort at being nice for as long as he could use me. Otherwise, I wouldn't get a word. Considering my political stance, I wouldn't trust him even during the times he was working for the CIA and would stay the hell away.
4) Buffy Summers: five minutes of awkward conversation. The end.
5) Anakin Skywalker: I assume this is before he gets in the suit? (As afterwards, he might find my lack of faith in the force disturbing. End of life.) Can't see us having enough in common to strike up more than five minutes of awkward conversation, either. I swear, these Chosen Ones....
6) Kai Winn: I'd stay the hell away, unless I was a reporter, in which case I'd be dying to get an interview. But then I'd still stay away afterwards and watch from a fascinated distance. And no, I wouldn't have voted for her when she entered the Prime Minister race. (I wouldn't have voted for Shakaar, either.) Separation of church and state, if you please.
7) Connor: see Buffy and Anakin. Though post-mindwipe, I might manage more than five minutes by quizzing him about Stanford, but that would be about it.
8) Londo Mollari: might flirt with me a bit, but not in a serious manner (Londo, as opposed to G'Kar, is a bit more conservative when it comes to interspecies sex, and I don't think I'd be one of the exceptions), and, depending on the stage of his career, might decide I need to get out more (and lend him some credits), see Lennier in season 1, or that I could be useful to help with the Centauri public image. I don't think he'd ever reveal his troubled soul to me. As I'm not Vir or G'Kar, he'd deflect any attempt to talk about something genuinenly serious in regards to himself.
9) Servalan: see Darla. Only not literary. The only way I'd survive was if she could use me, and then I'd probably get brainwashed and reeducated into the perfect citizen.
10) Quark: at last! He'd flirt with me and mean it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to reciprocate. And I don't gamble. AND I don't drink alcohol. Alas, that would be the end of our relationship.

Date: 2005-12-13 01:02 pm (UTC)i'm not sure I can do this one, as I have a hard time imagining myself interacting with any of the characters I particularly like -- though I think I did once promise to write somebody a Mary-Sue fic in which I ran into Wesley in a bookstore and had an awkward conversation (I'm very "good" at those, esp. when British accents are involved).

Date: 2005-12-13 11:48 am (UTC)Hey that's a nice one. Makes me wonder about the kind of relationship that would evolve between me and the fictional people I know *g*
Here the more realistic szenarios...
1) Siegfried Farnon, vetenarian: Would probably congratulate me on my generally healthy, happy and rather lively Cocker Spaniel. We'd shake hands, and just when I'm about to leave the practice, he'd recommend a good dog school...
2)Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan: Would notice the number the ill-looking, struggling and already deceased plants in our house and garden, immediately phone the police and accuse me of being a cold-blooded mass murderer and sadist.
3)Rupert Giles: Our little chat about book-collecting, libraries and the art of proper cataloguing would turn out rather pleasant. However I'd have to fight hard not to mention the many advantages of electronical data banks.

Date: 2005-12-13 02:17 pm (UTC)Definitely! (Though am a bit afraid of the things a fannish interpretation of the show might do to James and Helen Herriot's marriage... *g*)
I'd probably go for Tristan.
Good choice. I tend to have a soft spot for him as well. Something in Peter Davison's portrayal always made me suspect that underneath all the bad habits and openly displayed immaturity, the Tristan Farnon of the BBC version must be a very sweet, if somewhat insecure person.
The brotherly dynamic between him and Siegfried is totally priceless.

Date: 2005-12-13 06:35 pm (UTC)Realistically speaking, I think the question which ten characters one can be friends with would result in different answers than the ten favourites for many people. I don't know about you, but I tend to get interested in characters who are as different from me and the people I like in RL as they come.

Date: 2005-12-13 10:46 pm (UTC)Re. Londo:
I made a list of my favorite characters in my head and noticed as well that many characters I care for wouldn't let me get close at all. They have one or two people they are close to, but present a shiny facade to the rest of the world.
