Jan. 1st, 2006 09:20 amHappy new year, everyone. My last day of December started with slight frustration, as the temperature had jumped up about fifteen degrees and it was RAINING and thawing. So no skiing. However, it cleared up and became sunny around noon, so we had a pleasant walk (there is still enough snow around, it was over a meter after all) at least.
My aunt & uncle (who use their flat in Bad Wiessee far more often and didn't rent it to someone else, which is what Dad did with ours until this year) got an invitation for the local casino, coupled with a bottle of free champagne, so they took the Aged Parents and myself along for a quick visit before dinner. None of us gambled; we just took in the sight, which was interesting and very much like a fragment of a movie. Then we headed towards the terrific Italian restaurant where we had had dinner last year. I ate to die for tagliattelle with truffels, among other things.
Later, we tried out a new game sold in my hometown Bamberg and involving the local traffic situation which is sort of modelled on Monopoly, and then wandered towards the Tegernsee (= big, big lake at which this town is located) to watch the midnight fireworks. Armed with umbrellas, as a slight rain had started again. The fireworks were spectacular; there are several towns located at this lake, and watching those on the other side from the shore makes just for the most beautiful fireworks sight except for those I saw in Venice some times.
Back to the apartments, more shared drinks, and then I skeedaddled.
Currently, it's snow-raining. I'm still hoping for a change...
