While trying not to melt in our current heatwave, I tried to match up places and (fictional) people. Cities, landscapes, places which seemed, to me, to have a connection to the character in question. Here are some of the results:

Darla: Rome. Definitely. As opposed to Holtz, I wasn't surprised she wanted to go there. It's a Darla kind of place - not just once cities, many cities, and a sensual, cruel and witty core. I could see her taking part in the Roman carneval. Or turning up in a Fellini movie, dressed in white, of course.

Buffy: The desert, but not just any desert. The Californian one, or to be more precise, Death Valley, just outside the oasis in the middle, in the early morning when the heat is still bearable. Really, between "Restless", "Intervention" and "Get it Done", it can't be anything else.

Giles: London, and not because he's English. The London of the 70s which I have never seen, so Il put Giles in the scenery of Neil Jordan's "Mona Lisa". Glittering asphalt and hidden bitterness and fragments of old things. Speaking of Giles, Mariner has just started to post a story featuring him, Ethan and the fight against Voldemort in what promises to be a great HP/BTVS crossover here.

Willow: Berlin, strangely enough. City of ambigious sexuality, great energy, and plenty of scars from the past. The bright glitter of intellect and the proverbial not so old blood in the streets, and I don't mean just the 33-45 past. And, what many peple forget, a city interwoven with a river (which does belong to Willow).

Drusilla: New Orleans. Or any place in Louisiana with its ghosts and humidity and family madness completely going along with joie de vivre and cheer. Louisiana in the night, and jazz sounds mixed with the occasional cembalo.

Connor: The backlot of Universal, or Paramount, at night, when all the visitors have gone away. A faked dream banned on celluloid, real to everyone else but him. I can see Connor wandering through the facades of places that never were, trying to figure out what it all means.

On a more flippant note: )
