9 – Pairings – For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favorite pairings to write?

Well, first of all, I'm mainly a gen writer, and one shots in various fandoms tend to be not about pairings at all. So let's limit this to the fandoms where I actually wrote multiple stories, including ones which focused on a romantic/sexual pairing or two.

Babylon 5: Londo/G'Kar (still proud to be the pioneer of the pairing), Londo/Timov and, err, that's it? I mean, I have written other B5 pairings, on prompts and for other occasions, but usually only once. Hm. If you stretch the appellation "pairing", you could include my Londo/Cartagia story, which with all the twisted subtext was tremendous fun for my dark side to write. Anyway, if the question had been about my favourite relationship to write for, Londo and Vir would definitely have been there with Londo and G'Kar, but the question seems to be aiming at non-platonic goings on.

Heroes: err. I think the only one that's explicitly about a romance is Folly which was my version of the Nathan and Meredith backstory and no, not a favourite pairing. I had great fun with the Nathan and Nikki bickerings in Runaways but they were just a side aspect of what was going on in the story. And while my Simone story deals with the romantic fiascos of her life (and with her father), those pairings definitely aren't favoured by yours truly, either. (Poor Simone.) Otherwise it was gen and messed up family dynamics all the way for me back then. (What else is new?)

Angel: the Series: I was going to write Angel/Darla because that's my favourite pairing in the show, but on reflection I never wrote a story that's solely about them (some short ficlets originally for tm excepted). Connor/his issues were a big pairing but alas I don't think it qualifies. And while I covered Darla/Master and Darla/Lindsey as part of Darla's history in stories, they aren't ships I root for exactly. I did get a kick out of Darla/The Immortal, but there is only the one story, and that's about Darla and Angel as well. Again, I mostly went for gen and family stuff in my AtS fic.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: hooray! At last I can name three pairings which were the explicit focus of stories in good conscience. Quark/Dax as friendship with romantic overtones from Quark's side, Garak/Bashir and Kira/Dukat (though actually my big exploration tale of that 'ship isn't about them as a romantic pairing, but they do have sex in one of the what if segments, with Kira not thinking about Dukat at all while having it, so I suppose it counts).

Alias: Arvin Sloane/Jack Bristow/Irina Derevko, in all permutations of those combinations, Arvin Sloane/Sydney Bristow (subtext), Arvin Sloane/Emily Sloane. Hm, I wonder what the common denominator is here?

Merlin: gen, gen, gen all the way. There's canonical Gwen/Arthur, and sometimes Merlin/Arthur subtext, but that's not really what any of the stories is about.

Doctor Who: several of the stories assume Doctor/Master, but usually only one of them is actually in the story in question. Gen, gen, gen.

X-Men (Comicverse): aka the one wherein I actually wrote shippery fic. Abigail Brand/Hank McCoy all the way. Can't come up with second and third pairings focused on in stories with such a central focus, because gen, and did I mention, gen?

Highlander: The Series: Methos/Cassandra in an unromantic but fascinated by the relationship kind of way. Otherwise, see above. Gen.

Today is our last day in Bad Brückenau (I've lost 5 kilos 500 g as of yesterday, which feels rather nice), so here are some more pictures from our hikings. Those were easily the least painful dieting weeks I've spent, because of all the distraction, but I must confess I look forward to not being used as a pin cushion during accupuncture anymore, and returning to my own apartment (minus a few more days with the APs to help my mother with all the washing etc. that ensues when one returns from the holidays). Also, two more fanfic recs:

X-Men:

Charm Offensive: because one needs a break from all the angst now and then, it's not a fandom before it produces crack fic, and I'm still giggling at the thought of it. Post-XMFC, in which Erik thinks Charles uses rather unfair means to lure Brotherhood members back.

Like a hook into an eye: this, otoh, is a serious and no less enjoyable look at Charles, Raven and Erik, and that thing called love.

Now, on to the photos!
