Beatles link and Borgias Meme
Jun. 26th, 2012 07:32 pmFirstly: all praise to
itsnotmymind, for the ultimate can of worms was opened and we were asked to discuss the end of the end of the Beatles. Which we then proceeded to do in the comments in all amiability. For non-Beatles fans, this is the equivalent of having a friendly discussion about, say, Seeing Red in Buffy fandom, or Day 4 of Children of Earth in Torchwood fandom, or a discussion about either Stephen Moffat or Russell T. Davies as showrunners of Doctor Who without dragging the respective other guy in to bash or praise at the expense/in defense of the first. Also itsnotmymind came up with the best summary ever of the breakup dynamic when saying: John gave up more quickly, finding Yoko and partially withdrawing from the band, and yet he never completely gave up, staying for a year and half and three albums after Yoko gave him "the strength to leave" (must not have been a lot of strength). Paul, the optimist who had a lot of faith in the idea that you will get what you want if you work hard enough, refused to give up on the group until after it became apparent that it really was over. But once he gave up, he gave up completely, and turned all his willpower that he had been using to keep the band going to ending it.
Secondly: I miss my Borgias! Ah, hiatus torture. Which is why, following up on doing this for Breaking Bad, I decided to do the One Sentence Meme for The Borgias.
Try to write different categories of fic (angst, fluff, UST, etc) in one sentence.
Spoiler: for the first two seasons, with some history thrown in.
Disclaimer: This particular interpretation of the Borgias owned by Neil Jordan and Showtime.
Rating: PG 13.
Angst
The Spanish version of Giovanni was Juan; watching Lucrezia and her baby, Vanozza wonders what Lucrezia will feel if her child should go down his namesake's path as well.
AU
After Cardinal della Rovere has managed to outbid him at the papal election, Rodrigo decides a family trip to his homeland is long overdue, as are negotiations with Ferdinand and Isabella about the Spanish claim to Naples.
Crackfick
"If I am to work for your Excellency as an engineer, I need a new name", Vittoria said to Cesare and decided that "Leonardo of the town Vinci" had a nice ring to it.
Crossover (The Borgias/Doctor Who)
The way all the events around the Borgia family happened somewhat out of order with the original timeline had the Master's fingerprints all over it, so the Doctor was not the slightest bit surprised to encounter him in the College of Cardinals, looking more Gallifreyan than he had ever done on their home planet.
Death
Micheletto never tells Cesare this, but he treasures having watched Cesare kill for the first time in the same way he remembers losing his virginity.
Episode-Related
Juan doesn't even bother to arrange a burial for his whore, so Lucrezia does, not out of repentance but because she always pays her debts in full.
First Time
Vanozza is past thirty the first time she encounters Rodrigo Borgia, had her share of men and never was prone to girlish delusions, but by the time they make Cesare together, she knows he lit a fire that will last for the rest of her life.
Fluff
Everyone thinks Gioffre learned how to cheat at cards from Juan or Cesare, but it was Lucrezia who taught him; when they are the only two left andthe rest of their family is gone, he'll still make her smile by using those skills on Isabella d'Este, and for a moment, they'll be children again in their mothers' garden, managing mischief and nothing else.
Humor
Ascanio Sforza suspects the Pope has a secret way to make that doubly illegitimate grandson he parades around cry and sleep at will, depending on how annoyed His Holiness is with the Cardinals on any given day, but he'll never be able to prove it.
H/C
Decades as a cleric, and it is only now that his hands are digging a grave that Rodrigo realises the bible never says what Adam felt when Cain slew Abel; as the earth cries out to him Rodrigo knows that whatever God decreed, Adam would never bear to lose Cain as well.
Smut
At some point during the night, Guilia asked Vittoria to show her how to paint, and together they made Rodrigo's back their canvas.
UST
Lucrezia pretends she can't stitch the pattern Giulia has shown her, but mostly she uses the opportunity to feel Giulia's fingers linger on hers.
