Day 9 - Favorite Character

I don’t have a favorite character in all of Star Trek, but I can narrow it down per incarnation:

TOS: Spock (Saavik for the TOS movies)

Rebootverse: Pike

TNG: Jean-Luc Picard

DS9: used to be Garak, is now Quark, closely followed by Garak and Jadzia Dax

Voyager: Seven of Nine

Enterprise: Porthos Shran

Discovery: Michael Burnham

There’s undoubtedly a pattern here, of smart stoics with strong emotions hidden beneath, except for Shran (decidedly not a stoic) and Quark (also anything but a stoic, and the shadiest, least heroic regular on his show to boot). As for Shran: he’s an angry honorable antennae-wearing alien annoyed into liking (some) of his enemies, with a penchant for sarcasm. What’s not to love?

Thirty Days of Medici: Parallels

British friends, sorry about the rightwing coup in your country. I’m trying to distract myself with bloody messes that are safely a few centuries away and fictionalized.

Day 15 ~ FREE DAY - Anything you’d like

Having rewatched the first season, I was struck by some pointed visual parallels/echoes. Notably between the climax of Ascendancy (1.6., not the s1 finale, but where the season takes its last key turn and twist) and Mass (the s2 finale). The first time I watched, I was only noticing the obvious parallels between the climax of Ascendancy and The Godfather (at which point it had already dawned on me that Cosimo de‘ Medici in this show basically has Michael Corleone’s arc): ( Spoilers for Medicis and Corleones about. )
