In recent days, I continued to watch episodes from Homicide: Life on the Streets which [livejournal.com profile] karabair has sent me (verdict so far: I enjoy it very much, and no, I don't have a favourite character yet - in fact, the show reminds me of Firefly that way - meaning in FF I don't have a favourite, either, I like the entire team). I also am rewatching season 4 of Alias. Expect a season 4, how I love thee, let me count the ways post one of these days. (Really, now that we have a closed canon to look back on, I think it, and not 2 is my favourite). In preparation, I offer a link, to a fabulous

season 4 of Alias soundtrack

Speaking of soundtracks, there is also one up for my favourite spy in his clever tragic twistedness.

Arvin Sloane - Lullabye for Cain

In other news, I'm on the road again, trying to escape the football (soccer to you overseas people) mania everywhere - and looking forward to a brief trip to London between June 18th and June 22nd. [livejournal.com profile] kathyh, [livejournal.com profile] kangeiko, [livejournal.com profile] rozk, can we meet? [livejournal.com profile] watervole, [livejournal.com profile] wychwood, I don't suppose you're in the capital then?

ETA: Speaking of spies and music. I kind of feel it's my duty to inform the general public of the shocking truth [livejournal.com profile] gentilhomme, [livejournal.com profile] eirena and yours truly found out in a chat. As evidenced by Angel's thing for Barry Manilow in general and Mandy in particular, every tragic character has a secret musical vice he'd rather not share with the public. For Jack Bristow, this is ABBA. He has all the records and the best of cds. Though he denies using an undercover mission to visit the revival concert last year. Arvin Sloane is a complete sap for Andrew Llyod Webber. No prices for guessing that Phantom of the Opera is his favourite musical(unstable genius/criminal manipulates young woman with daddy issues, what's not to love? ), but the song he's not above requesting from beleagured bar pianists is actually Memories from Cats. He denies using the Alliance meetings in London to catch every single POTO performance Michael Crawford sang in. Irina Derevko is a folk music addict. Anything emo, barefeet, open hair, and mumbling into the microphone, she's there.

Sark somehow has found out about this, having worked with two of them. However, he has this mutual destruction thing going. As in, Jack, Arvin and Irina will mutually destroy him if he ever tells. Also, Irina will reveal his thing for the Spice Girls and the fact he even had a poster when he was fourteen.

While the facts revealed above are dire, they're entirely spoiler free, so, [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite, you can read them.

Not, I'm afraid. I seem to have stuff on all those days, pretty much.

Are you still going to be over in August?

Yes, I am, and for longer, and to several places in England. That's a seperate trip, not a replacement.

Yay. Hopefully I will be able to meet up with you then, in that case.

PS Your soundtrack links both go to the same page.

I'm crossing my fingers. Will tell you the schedule as soon as I have it.

And grr, argh, that wasn't intended, thanks for telling me! Fixed now, hopefully.

Ooh, will you make it to Manchester or any points nearby?

Incidentally, I'm not sure that "escape the World Cup" and "trip to London" belong in the same sentence. Discussion with political comrade last night - Him: "The 15th? We have a meeting on the 15th? But that's England v Trinidad & Tobago!" Me: "Oh well, that's a pity, but it's an important and urgent issue and we need to discuss it this month..." [This goes on for several minutes] Me: "What time is the match, anyway?" Him: "Five o'clock." Me: "Five o'clock? Five o'clock? But the meeting isn't until eight, that's more than an hour after it finishes!" Him: "Um... suppose so."

Manchester: it's not scheduled as of now, but like I said, the August trip is still somewhat flexible. Alas I am not alone and would have to justify an excursion to Manchester by pointing out local sights, and "but Life on Mars is shot there!" would not wash with my companion.*g* I'll try to think of something, though.

Point taken about London & the World Cup, but you know, it can't be possibly worse than Munich, and I do have an invitation on the 20th, which is how I justify that trip officially anyway.

...I'll try to make my German accent as discreet as possible, though, just in case we trounce you and I must fear for my life...

What sort of sights would wash with your companion? Though really I don't see how anyone can resist the Life on Mars trip. Take a bus to Sam and Gene's police station! Peer through the railings where they swigged whisky after Joni's murder! Finish off with a curry in Rusholme!

Should you make it near Oxford, let me know; although as it's very easy for me to get to London as well, that might be the simplest thing. (But by the end of your trip here yuo too will be wishing that you had never learned what the metatarsal is.)

Also -- Sloane and ALW. Oh, this is so true, and so pathetically funny.

Oxford is planned for August, definitely.

Re the Sloane/ALW OTP: Isnt it? I notice your lack of comment on Sark and the Spice Girls, though.

Oh, the Spice girls poster! Yes. It's so true. Right over his bed, and when he practiced kissing his pillow, it would be each of the Spice Girls in turn. He was such a loser!!!!!!!!!

(I mock because I love. No, really.)

Given a suitable excuse, I might be able to make it to London... I've currently nothing else I'm doing on those days. If you're planning on visiting anything interesting (and I have fairly wide values of 'interesting') then you might well persuade me to make the trip.

Hm, would an exhibition of Michelangelo drawings at the British Museum do? It's the last week in which you can see it. Also, I'm planning on theatre every evening save the 20th which is when my official excuse for being there happens, but I don't know which plays are on yet.

As you'll realise, I didn't make it to London. I don't know if you read my journal, but a close friend just died and I'm still a bit wiped.

Hopefully, I'll see you next time you're in England.

Escaping the World Cup on a trip to London won't be possibly you know. They won't let you in the country unless you know all about Wayne Rooney's metatarsal *g*.

I'm on holiday (and escaping the World Cup in Italy is about as possible as escaping it in London) until late on June 19th, which knocks out 20th too really, but I'm sure I could manage June 21st. It would be lovely to see you again.

June 21st would be great. (My official reason for being in London is on June 20th.) Great! What are the current exhibitions in the museums so I can give Judith a reason to come as well?

There's an exhibition of Michelangelo drawings at the British Museum which has had good reviews, though it will be in its last week then and probably crowded. There's Modernism at the V&A, but I always get lost in the V&A so it's not my favourite museum. The National Gallery seems to be between exhibitions at the moment and I don't know about the others. There must be something on that isn't football!

Glad 21st June is good for you and I'll look forward to seeing you again :)

Escaping the Cup sounds wise; I had friends who rented out their apartments in Atlanta during the Olympics and made enough money for their own vacation :). It tells you something about America that I had no idea this was going on yet . . .

I'm glad you're enjoying HLOTS -- how far have you gotten? The season one ensemble really is so damn perfect that it's hard to wish for more or less of anybody. When I look back now, after many viewings, I discover a slight special-preference for Felton (the lesser Baldwin brother) who manages to be the kind of guy who would annoy the hell out of me if I had to work with him, but who is great fun to watch. Also, Bolander/Munch are clearly the most slashable pairing, although apparently not young and cute enough for fandom (though there is a lot of Munch/Kay Howard het for some reason).

And the Rocket's Dead Glare was the last episode I watched. Incidentally, 5 & 6 were again on a cd that wouldn't play, but this time I could not resist and jumped ahead to 7 & 8 which would.

Why on earth does Kay get paired with Munch? They hardly talk to each other.

Also, I keep wondering where on earth I have seen Yaphed Kotto before, because I know I saw him somewhere.

Rocket's Dead Glare is great; that Chinese restaurant is right up the street from the Spy Museum, and close to [livejournal.com profile] erinpoetchica's apartment. Incidentally, there needs to be some plane of existence on which Crosetti and John Sheridan can have a conversation about the Lincoln assassination.

I uploaded 1x05 (http://www.filefactory.com/get/v3/f2.php?f=f13f9e) (which is one of my favorites) here before my wireless fell apart. 1x06 is a classic and somewhat crucial and of course i can't get the upload to work, but i'll figure it out eventually. Serves me right for not playtesting each of the discs -- hope the rest of them work for you.

PS -- Kotto's been in many many movies over the years, but you probably remember him from "Alien" -- also maybe "The Running Man" or Midnight Run"
