One of the beauties of a ficathon after one has finished one's own story: sit back, relax, and await the goodies written by others. In the recent Alias one, I got Subterranean Homesick Blues, which is about Jack Bristow's first undercover mission and was written by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63, which makes it a given it's good, with her young Jack being completely plausible. (Oh, and the justification for the afro look is inspired!)

Able Seamen by [livejournal.com profile] kangeiko gives us Jack 'n Arvin very early on, as young and carefree as those two were ever going to get, and makes me long once more for a First Generation Spies series. Which we'll never get. Ah, well, there is fanfiction.

In other news, I was in Ingolstadt and in a place named Nastätten which turned out to be somehwere near the Loreley (i.e. St. Goarshausen), which was somewhat draining, though in a pleasant way. (The scenery is among the most beautiful we have in Germany.) Still, I felt like relaxing and so took myself to Bad Wiessee for the weekend.

Also, am happy to hear this:

Which Doctor (from Doctor Who) Are You?

You are the seventh Doctor! Warm and friendly to those around you, your manner can take a dark turn at times. Those who cross your path have significant reason to fear, as your morality is a bit more liquid then might make some comfortable. However, you are not human, and behind those clever eyes a new scheme is brewing. The responsibility of protecting the universe lies on your shoulders. How can you help it if no one understands?

Very interesting links - thanks for sharing them.

I found your site through your guide to Spike fans (someone linked it in a comment), and noticed you also like Alias. I was wondering if you could recommend any good essays/meta on the show.

Unfortunately, the best essay on Alias I've read, by [livejournal.com profile] rozk, isn't in print yet, and she wrote it for print, so it's not online, either.

[livejournal.com profile] operation_alias has some meta, including an essay about Arvin Sloane (http://community.livejournal.com/operation_alias/71072.html) by me, as well as a listing of my favourite Sloane scenes (http://community.livejournal.com/operation_alias/75411.html). I also wrote reviews of all the seasons of Alias which should be findable under the Alias tag (http://selenak.livejournal.com/tag/alias), but perhaps the most of interest are the post on the
season four arc and finale (http://selenak.livejournal.com/162730.html) and by contrast the season 5 finale (http://selenak.livejournal.com/221702.html).

If you want something light hearted (written between said seasons, btw), in the ways of meta, there are Parenting Lessons (http://selenak.livejournal.com/167802.html).

Thanks! All of these are wonderful - especially Parenting lessons. And I've read some of RozK's essays in print on Buffy - they're very nice.

You're welcome. And here's hoping Roz' Alias essay will appear in print soon, because it's really worth reading.
