Character Love Meme 1 a

Last day before Frankfurt, though tomorrow it'll be just evening, with Wednesday being the first true "book" day. I'm somewhat nauseated at real life (nothing personal, I mean politics) right now, so need fannish distraction. The prospect of BSG resuming on Friday is pleasant enough, but considering I'm an ocean away and shall have to whine, charm or bribe again I decided to go for something more active, and follow suite with the Character Love Meme. Except that while there are very few characters I hate or dislike, there are quite a lot whom I only like, not love. And with my luck, I'd get a list that looks like "Spike - no, don't love, just like, Sheridan, ditto, Starbuck, ditto, Kira, ditto, Jack Sparrow, ditto, Remy, haven't met him yet, etc." So, I made up a variation:

Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I will tell you in at least 100 words what that character loves best about another character from the same fandom

Fandoms include: Star Trek (any incarnation save Enterprise), Babylon 5, Blake's 7, Highlander, Alias, BtVS, AtS, Sandman, new Battlestar Galactica, X-men movieverse and Astonishing comicverse.

I totally meant to tell you that I was telling Sam about House of M, and how everyone got what they'd always wanted courtesy of Wanda Maximoff. Scott and Emma were married, and I was like, "Considering that Spiderman got to have HIS dead girlfriend come back to life, that obviously proves that Scott loves Emma the best." Then I realized that Emma would want Scott, and was confused how all the logistics of that would work if Jean reappeared, and then I thought maybe Logan would have Jean, or maybe the four of them would all live together. Then my brain broke a little bit.

Yeah, grumble, I'm -- kind of cranky about that one; my personal wank is at that point Emma had managed to convince Scott that his heart's desire was "whatever Emma wants." Or that he could never have perfect happiness with Jean because he'd always be worried about something happening to her. *nods*

Not that anybody asked but, if I had been in charge of House of M, Scott would have been single, devoid of any personal ties or responsibilities, and . . .living on a watercraft of some kind. The sort that trawls for crustaceans *whistles*

But sionnain does raise a good point, which is that certain people's heart's desires are simply incompatible. So maybe it's like a multi-preference ficathon, where some people ended up getting EXACTLY what they wanted, and others just got the best match that was out there. So maybe, like, Scott's number one was "Jean never died and we are so very happy together," but that's completely incompatible with Emma being happy, so that's out; meanwhile Emma's number one was, "Living with Sebastian as dark mistress of the hellfire club, forever and ever" -- but Sebastian actually wants to be training beagles in the midwest and thinks Emma is too high maintenance.

So, "Scott and Emma happily married" is like number 3 on Emma's list, and number 5 on Scott's, but it's the only thing that doesn't CONFLICT.

I have no idea why Marvel hasn't hired me yet. Seriously.

BTW, have I told you that you should read Adjectiveless? I think you'd like it, and Scott and Emma are a lot less f'ed up than in Astonishing.
