Tiny Human Heads: Ten/Sarah Jane, but so much more. It's Ten after Doomsday and Sarah Jane being quite serious about her "No" to being a Companion again but being a friend anyway, it's Sarah Jane the journalist, and a story which New and Old Who fans alike can enjoy. (Meaning if you've seen Sarah Jane with Three and Four, you'll be thrilled, and if you haven't seen her anywhere except in School Reunion with Ten, you'll be thrilled as well.) It's also Ten written quite definitely as Ten, not as Nine, and yet those past selves - Three, Four, and yes, Nine, too - flitting by. I've read fanfic from this writer - Kalima - in her BTVS days, and so I knew it would be good, but was delightfully surprised by quite how good it was nonetheless.

Brave New Girl, otoh, is Rose post-Doomsday, getting on with her life as well, and on a new adventure. I love the way [livejournal.com profile] bimo conveys this is Alt-Earth, and uses her pov character to describe Rose.

I have FINALLY watched all of Season One, and I owe you apologies for not daring to tell you that, in fact, my computer never played the DVD you so kindly made me, whatever obscure codecs I downloaded, so that it took someone YSIing me AVIs before I could finally enjoy the marvel that is Dr Who. Am just starting on season Two (saw episode one only) and is it me, or is the Tenth Doctor a pale placeholder for the Magnificent Eccleston™? Or can one, in fact, finally learn to like David Tennant?

Well, that depends on you. A lot of fans do, some don't, and that's true for every single Doctor since One changed into Two. As for me, Tennant clicked for me from the start, and I must confess that though I do like Eccleston, he never quite convinced me that he was another version of the same person I had known in other incarnations. Tennant does, which might be because as opposed to Eccleston, he's a fanboy of the old show; there are moments in his performance where the viewer, or at least yours truly, goes "ah, such a *insert number of Doctor* moment!", and yet it gells to a new whole, as it should.

However, knowing Old Who is not a condition for liking Tennant; [livejournal.com profile] iamsab, for example, hadn't seen a single previous Doctor and first fell for Eccleston and then for Tennant, with a vengeance, so it's possible. Or he might never be your coup of tea. Who knows?

My own favourite Doctor, though I like them all, is Seven, by the way, aka Sylvester McCoy.

Cup d'Etat

Ah, there we are - this was my first introduction to Dr Who. I can see how Tennant's effort at achieving continuity would resonate.

But taken as a separate show, wow, Eccleston is a STAR. I love the with with which the whole show is inserted in today's Britain, complete with class and region and in-jokes. In "Rose", the shots of Westminster Bridge and the Eye are a thing of wry, fond, iconic beauty. And "Harriet Jones, Prime Minister." IAnd the way he loses it in "Dalek." I love the way some perfectly absurd plot twists are introduced with a flourish - dare ya to say this doesn't make sense and I TRAVEL THROUGH TIME IN A POLICE BOX, 'kay? And Eccleston does that superbly; he crackles and jumps about in a physical way that so far I haven't seen in Tennant.

Right, must watch MORE.

You are so predictable in the characters you like ;-)

I don't know what you could possibly mean.

There's often some adjustment with new Doctors. Don't worry, it'll happen. :)

I am familiar with and adore "Tiny Human Heads," but "Brave New Girl" is new to me. Thanks so much for the rec.
