The irony here is that while the relationships I am most interested in in most shows aren't the romantic ones, I had no difficulty coming up with these.... must be more of a 'shipper than I thought.
Top 10 Shippings Overall (In no particular order.)
1. Angel/Darla
2. Lois/Clark (I'm thinking specifically of the show of that name, but it's true for most other Superman incarnation I'm familiar with)
3. Emma/Scott
4. Charles/Erik
5. Ellen/Saul
6. Dax/Quark
7. Londo/G'Kar
8. Londo/Timov
9. John Crichton/Scorpius (I'm tempted to name John/Rygel here, because they are my Farscape OTP, but the meme goes for some sexual subtext, so...)
10. Gaius/Six
Top 5 Love Triangles/Threesomes
1. Londo/Timov/G'Kar (fiendishly difficult to write, though; I only once managed it by making it happen in Londo's head)
2. Jack Bristow/Irina Derevko/Arvin Sloane (OT3, I tell you)
3. Erik/Charles/Mystique (emotionally anyway, especially when
artaxastra and
penknife are writing it)
4. Darla/Angel(us)/Drusilla (canon, and that Spike fellow came 20 years later)
5. Six/Three/Gaius (canon!)
Top 5 Canon Pairings
1. Angel/Darla
2. Doctor/TARDIS (what? So canon! In all ten incarnations!)
3. Arvin Sloane/Emily Sloane
4. Londo/Timov (thank you, Peter David, for writing Soul Mates) (Londo/G'Kar is so canon, too, but I'm not starting an argument this early in the morning)
5. Jack Bristow/Irina Derevko
Top 5 "Not my favorite, but they're very nice alternate choices" Shippings
1. Buffy/Faith (actually, depending on the mood I'm in and how it's pulled off, this might by my favourite for Buffy)
2. Emma/Jean (would have made much more sense than Emma/Scott in the Morrison era; my love for Emma/Scott is entirely Joss Whedon caused, though now it extends to the pairing in general)
3. Erik/Mystique
4. Angel/Kate (we few, we happy few of Kate likers; Kate and Angel post-Epiphany would have worked, you know, and would have spared us Angel/Cordy)
5. Sydney/Will (I still think Syd shouldn't have insisted on Vaughn, you know)
Top 5 Crossgen Shippings
1. Sydney/Sloane (my own Bad Wrong Hot, which lead me to...)
2. Jack/Nadia (also BWH, also vaguely incestous)
3. Garak/Bashir (no idea how old Garak is supposed to be, but if Dukat as a contemporary is anything to go by, at least old enough to be Bashir's father)
4. Amanda/Duncan (what? She's about 1000 plus, he's a measly 400 plus)
5. Caesar/Cleopatra (not in any particular fictional version)
Top 5 "wtf that makes no sense... but I LOVE it!" Shippings
*pouts* My pairings make all sense. To me.
Top 5 "I just don't feel what everyone else is feelin'" Shippings
1. Remus/Sirius (I think my main problem with that one is that they each assumed the other guilty for a long time, which makes pre-Azkaban unlikely; post-Azkaban I could see, but I just don't feel any interest - in them as a couple, that is, I like them as individual characters)
2. Kara/Lee (this predates current events; I never liked 'the ship, even back in ye olde s1 days when the overwhelming majority of fandom did)
3. John/Aeryn (sort of; PKW did a lot to make me like them with each other again (as opposed to liking them with everyone BUT each other), but I still never felt the fervent adoration this pairing evoked in its heyday; *is secret Aeryn/Crais' shipper*)
4. Susan Ivanova/Marcus Cole (okay on screen, where it stays unrequited, but I've never been tempted to read a single bit of fanfic, and together with John/Delenn, this is the most popular pairing in B5 fandom; I maintain to this day that if Susan had deflowered Marcus, it wouldn't have lasted longer than a month at most)
5. Harry/Draco (after HBP, I withdraw my objection of Malfoy Junior being a dull and not very interesting one note character, but my major objection is that I just don't see either boy being sexually and/or romantically interested; if you stranded those two on a deserted island, they'd still be celibate a decade later)
Top 5 "I hope these die" Shippings
1. Kara/Lee (because they bring out the worst in each other; moreover, if you want to salvage Lee Adama as a character, give him a non-romantic storyline again, PTP, please!)
2. Angel/Cordelia (did actually die, as a romance, and I loved them as friends, so lucky me, I guess)
3. Ben/Sofie (though they were actually my least problem with the second season of Carnivale)
4. Max/Liz (Roswell wasn't a show I saw every episode of, but I did like most of it, until the great character development Tess got in season 2 was destroyed to make her a villain and
remove her as an obstacle to the resurrection of the dreary Max/Liz romance; which is when I stopped watching)
5. season 3 of Alias only: Syd/Vaughn. I was neutral on the 'ship for the first two seasons (though preferred Will), and actually liked S/V in parts of s4, but in s3, I really, really,
REALLY hated the relationship, the way it was written, and Vaughn

Date: 2006-12-24 12:17 pm (UTC)But I think the canon portrayal in Fool For Love and Darla implies that Angelus never has sexual contact with Dru (taking "sexual" in the broadest possible sense) from her siring until Spike gets involved, because Dru's masochism is so extreme that there's nothing he can do to her short of staking that she wouldn't get off on and he's such a pathological sadist that he can't derive pleasure from anything vaguely consensual outside the deep relationship with Darla.

Date: 2006-12-24 02:43 pm (UTC)(Just to play devil's advocate re: Angelus and vaguely consensual sex with people other than Darla - it's open to debate whether that groupie he staked in Salvage told the truth about "remember when we made love in Italy" .*g* Plus of course I'd define Angelus/Spike as vaguely consensual, but in that case connected with power demonstrations, so a very different situation from Dru on her own.)

5. Caesar/Cleopatra (not in any particular fictional version)
*g* Yes. Diana just sent me the complete restpred DVD version of the Taylor/Harrison/Burton version. I'd seen the TV broadcast version, so tehre were some "racy" scenes I'd never seen. Including when Caesar kisses Charmian. *squee* Ahem. That wasn't a squee you heard. No.

LOL. When I saw Antony and Cleopatra in Stratford, it occured to me that Charmian when teasing Cleopatra about what a man Caesar was might be a bit afflicted herself, you know...

*g* I'm sure Iras thinks so anyhow!
And truly it's almost impossible to be immune to his charm when he turns it on one. Well, at least for her. Although Charmian is going to have to wait if she wants that, at least until Elza!
It's your fault, I'll have you know, that I now can't get The Phantom Menace out of Handmaiden!
Merry Christmas, dear Evil Twin! *blows kisses*

Merry Christmas, darling good twin, to you and yours!

Date: 2006-12-24 03:58 pm (UTC)Yes, very true. . . and as you know I've made a little place in my heart for Joss's Scott/Emma; but it's still on my list of ships-to-die because I don't trust anyone else to write it. But I don't necessarily want it to end on Joss's watch. So this is likely going to lead to me tearing my hair out in some shape or form; although if Marvel can avoid gratuitous character death, accidental marriage of clones, or alt-timeline-offspring, they'll be doing pretty well, for Marvel.

Date: 2006-12-24 04:21 pm (UTC)Marvel comicverse fandom doesn't tend to think outside the box.
A friend explained it to me in terms of all the slashers and UC shippers ending up in DCU, where there is apparently plenty to keep them busy.
