First post of 2007 for me, and of course it opens with a meme. So, looking back on mine own fannish output in 2006:

Favorite story this year: Sacrificium (Alias): because you can't go wrong with Arvin Sloane disguised as a priest, Jack Bristow, and Colombian drug trade.

My best story this year: The Burying Kind (Buffyverse/Six Feet Under): Angel hires Fisher & Diaz to bury Cordelia. Probably the most ambitious ensemble piece I tried, and it's all due to [livejournal.com profile] kangeiko, who dared me to.

Most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Condolences (BTVS). As vain authors do, I thought the idea of Angel paying a visit to the Master after staking Darla in s1 of BtVS was a good one, but this ficlet never got much of a reaction.

Most fun story: Shore Leave (BSG/ST: TNG), aka the one where William Adama meets Lwaxana Troi.

Sexiest story: Goodbye Drug (Alias), which is a short look at Sloane's affair with Irina when he still thinks of her as Laura. (Listing roleplays would be cheating, as they're collaborative efforts, otherwise I'd have listed this.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Action and Reaction (Alias). if something happens to one daughter, it might as well to the other. [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti did me the honour of calling this the one of the most frightening bits of Alias fanfic she ver read, because Jack and Arvin know exactly what they're doing. *veg*

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Five in One (BTVS). Or, how to channel rising irritation creatively. Writing it didn't shift my perception of Spike, which remained the same as it had been before, but before this, I hadn't wondered much about his victims, either, with the exception of the Woods, and this story is all about the victims' pov. Writing it made them real for me, and I hope for the readers as well.

Hardest story to do: Visiting Hour (Babylon 5). This was written for a ficathon, and the three pairings of choice were: Garibaldi/Bester (this was where I found out that while I find the relationship fascinating, I can't write it slashy), Gideon/Matheson/Eilerson (love Max, like Matheson, like Gideon, can't see any of them having sex with each other, unfortunately)... or Morden/Anna, requested to be "something that’s both fucked up and includes Morden’s family in some way, be it as a comment or a reason for his actions". So I went for Morden/Anna. Unfortunately, this presented me with another set of problems: a) I don't believe in Morden's motivation for serving the shadows as given in the novel "The Shadow Within" (which clearly was what the recipient was thinking of, and after all, she should enjoy the story, and b) Anna after being plugged in a Shadow vessel had lost her ability to consent, which imo is something other than "fucked up". Then at last I hit upon my salvation, because the s5 episode Day of the Dead not only offers a canonical post-mortem appearance by Morden but also the possibility to bring back Anna in a way that allowed her decisions (and allowed me to explore a little how much of Anna was left after the Shadows used her, which I have always wondered). Oh, and by using Lennier as a pov, I got to keep both Morden and Anna ambiguous because I didn't have to reveal their thoughts to the reader.*g*

Biggest disappointment: "Condolences", see above.

Biggest surprise: Debts (AtS, aka the one where, post Origin, Wesley meets Connor). The surprise here to me was that I can write Wesley's pov. The only other time I did that was eons ago, in a German story with [livejournal.com profile] bimo, and that was BTVS Wesley, before he ever came to Los Angeles.

Most revealing story: Stag Night (Babylon 5, aka the one where Londo and G'kar try their hands at an Earth custom, because it ends with Sheridan in the buff. *g* No, seriously, probably "Five in One" (see above).

A story I want remembered: have to with "The Burying Kind" yet again. "Five in One" would not be bad, either.

You did, and thanks for saying it again! Dawn's appearance in it is all the result of your ongoing feedback, you know.

Damn, Action and Reaction *is* just wrong, even for you. I love it. (Not thinking about what that says about me!) And Sacrificium is still fun on re-read.

I hadn't considered that the issues of Morden/Anna when she was still alive-but-Shadow-controlled but oh yes, that would have been the wrong kind of fucked up.

I was just reminded how much I loved 'Action and Reaction'. I don't think I said so at the time -- shame on me -- but it's amazing. And wrong. What an excellent combination. :D

I loved the Burying Kind, even though I haven't ever seen Six Feet Under.
Your B5 fics were wonderful too. Visiting Hour was one of the best I've read, and I laughed at Stag Night!
Must go read these again..it's been awhile.

Thank you. I'm so glad "The Burying Kind" works for you, since I hoped it would be accessible to none SFU-watchers as well!
