Before I present the photos of what I was doing in Southern Tyrolia when I wasn't stealing time to finish my insane recent story, look what I received!
futuresoon has done a wonderful picture of Our Heroes. (And in great Runaways style, too, the comic, I mean, which is all the more remarkable since
futuresoon hasn't read it yet.) It's the first time someone has done fanart based on something I've written, and I feel profoundly grateful and am bouncing up and down after a long, long day in the car from Meran to Bamberg. The absolutely adorable picture:
FANART! ART OF FAN! YATTA!
Now on to Southern Tyrolia, or rather, the area around Meran, which is where I was until this morning. (After a long day in the car, I've just arrived back.) It's ridiculously beautiful.
Meran itself:

From which we hiked to the village Tirol and the castle Tirol, both of which are not to be confused with the region of Tirol (aka Tyrolia to you English speaking people), which is in Austria. This is in Italy. Confused yet? But it's so pretty!

They have a St. Peter as well:

And a decorative ruin nearby:

But really, the whole sight of village and castle alike says it all:

Next day, we went hiking in the Dolomites proper:

And also visited one of the summer residences of later Habsburgs. Elisabeth, aka Sissi loved it there:

Saturday saw the aged parents and self hiking among the appleyards and wineyards at first:

(Mum & self)

Having arrived at Lana, we took the lift all the way up to the top of the mountain and went to St. Vigilius:

And then we walked down. And down. And down. I kid you not. It was my father's idea, what can I say. A 2700 mountain, and walking from the top to the valley; my knees are still shaking a day after.
En route, my mother started a minor protest and my father tried to reassure her by pointing out he knew he was doing on the map:

Knees aching or not, the scenery was still breathtaking:

So worth it.
