B7 and BSG links
Mar. 29th, 2008 06:50 pmIt's rare to find new Blake's 7 meta, what with it being an old fandom, but recently I spotted this interesting post about Avon in s4.
The other show that finally starts again next week (or something) is Battlestar Galactica, which I'm greatly looking foward to. (They're always superb with first four to six season episodes; it's the middle of each season that is the problem for this show...)
monanotlisa linked to this superb interview with Mary McDonnell, in which she talks about Laura Roslin, gender, sexuality and faith.
As the quadrangle of doom was one of my least favourite things about s3, I was ever so relieved when it ended, and I happen to think Kara and Lee as lovers are poison for each other, it is my hope that the show will keep them as friends only. So I was thrilled to read a Katee Sackhoff interview in which she has this to say on the matter:
When asked if she sees Kara and Lee eventually ending up together, Sackhoff replied, "I don't think that Lee and Kara will ever be happy together. I don't think they're meant to be together. I think that they're meant to be best friends. They're meant to push each other, they're meant to have those arguments that drive you. If anyone is fitting for her, and if there's anyone that she'd actually allow herself to be happy with and be with, it'd probably be Leoben. Anders is too weak for her emotionally, Lee's too much of a boy scout. . .so if there's any person that she could ever let her guard down with and be happy with, it's probably Leoben."
Um, Anders fans, I don't think he's emotionally weak. I like Sam, that wasn't the part I was thrilled about. But yay on no more Kara/Lee as lovers, yay on Kara and Lee as friends (which they were again in Maelstrom, and not coincidentally, that was when the writing for poor Lee FINALLY became sufferable once more), and I am very amused indeed that Katee ships Kara/Leoben.

Date: 2008-03-30 04:16 am (UTC)I don't think Anders is weak, either! And I'm only a casual viewer, but I'm with you when it comes to Kara/Lee. However, the idea of mutual Kara/Leoben gives me the creeping heebee-jeebies. My feelings about Kara/Leoben are basically encapsulated in 'If You're the Answer, What's the Question?' (http://hackthis.livejournal.com/402853.html) (a character study you may have read) and this video, 'No Children':

Date: 2008-03-30 06:30 am (UTC)If the show were actually to go in that direction, I'd be very upset, but I really don't think it will, and so, I'm amused (which is admittedly also because people take their 'shipping so very, very seriously and I imagine Kara/Lee'shippers would be seething about this).
Hee hee hee, I agree.
As soon as I saw the video, I thought of that story! If the embedded vid doesn't work, the URL is here: http://themonkeyjack.imeem.com/video/fkBnuzOG/bsg_no_children/

Date: 2008-03-31 12:40 am (UTC)I just re-watched most of Season 3 this weekend, and I agree, although the Quadrangle of Doom was much easier to take hour by hour instead of week by week. Also, I knew the end was coming soon, so that helped too.
I love Kara & Lee together, and if I thought that they could be together in a non-painful, non-horrible way, I'd be for them getting together. However, they do seem to be much better as friends, so I'm not at all rooting for them in any sort of romantic way. And I like Anders quite a bit (and I loved how he and Lee commiserated after "Maelstrom," too), and like him with Kara also. I could almost see Kara/Leoben if not for the horrible mind game he put her through on New Caprica, but it is amusing that Katee ships them.
