May. 19th, 2008 10:46 amBattlestar Galactica: a post with a good analysis of Sam Anders' actions in Faith and the consequences in Look what is coming to dinner is here.
X-Men (comicverse): one of the most enjoyable titles in the last year or so was X-Men: First Class which took on the original five - Jean, Scott, Hank McCoy, Bobby and Warren plus Charles Xavier. This has spawned a ficathon, of which my favourite two stories so far are:
In care of thee: Charles Xavier encounters Jean Grey. Jean was one of the most important people in Xavier's life, and here we see how the relationship starts.
Make me a willow cabin at your gate: one of the great contributions of First Class was retrospectively giving us the adorable teenage love of Jean and Wanda. Seriously, if you didn't know your X-Men lore, you'd think the two people set up as a future couple were Jean Grey and Wanda Maximoff, not Jean and Scott. They're best friends, enjoy being away from certain overprotective males in their respective lives once in a while, and have the kind of emotional intimacy sadly most fiction still only gives to male buddies. This story throws in young Emma Frost into the mix for good measure, and you must read it. Now.
Heroes: I'm staying away from volume 3 spoilers which alas means I'm not reading most Heroes posts right now, but thee is always fanfic. One great collection of character portraits is : Five people who never shot Nathan Petrelli. Love it!
Lastly, Doctor Who:
How Donna didn't spent her summer vacation: set between Planet of the Ood and The Sontaran Stratagem, one of these stories which feel like episodes, with the Donna-Doctor interaction spot-on. If you love Ms Noble and her relationship with the Doctor as I do, that is all you need to know...

And, now that I've finally gotten ficathon business taken care of, I'll be able to watch the latest BSG and participate in all the squee/outcry/speculation.

He had basically just one issue that featured Xavier, and the emphasis there had to be on the struggle with Danger and secondarily on the effect the Danger revelation had on Scott (and the others), but his Xavier came across as a real person instead of just a Daddy Who Dissappoints with these asides (also the detail of his mental self-image being in a wheelchair, and what he says to Danger about limitations) that tie in to his backstory.
That's not to say they don't have blind spots about each other but with their history I think they can be more honest than they are with most other people.
Yes. It's not just the shared telepathy; I always had the impression Xavier made the transition from seeing Jean as a teenager to seeing Jean as an adult with her own decisions far easier than he could with the boys. And she didn't have him on quite as high a pedestal as the others originally had, and thus found it easier to deal with his flaws.
