This and that
Oct. 11th, 2008 06:40 pmBack for the weekend, after delayed trains kept me on the (rail)road nearly the entire day. Luckily, I had a new Doctor Who audio adventure to keep me company, Dan Abnott's The Forever Trap, read by Catherine Tate, and featuring, naturally, my favourite New Who TARDIS team, the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble. It's great fun, not least because Catherine Tate is an excellent reader - her dead-on Ten (or Tenannt, if you like) impersonation is no surprise, but she also creates different voices for all the other characters, and of course is wonderful with Donna. What's more, Donna and the Doctor are together for the entire adventure, and their interaction, the banter, the support when needed and the glaring at other times, it's all there. Abnott even manages to work in some season 4 trademarks like Donna and the Doctor being mistaken for a couple and both emphatically denying this, and some general New Who trademarks like putting a contemporary phenomenon - spam mail, virus attachments, overcrowded housing, greedy landlords, among other things -, amped, in a sci fi context. And did I mention Catherine Tate is terrific? *adores*

From two newer loves to two old ones:
Babylon 5:
Londo and G'Kar, as seen by Vir, in late season 4: Beatitudes. I do love my Centauri and Narn to bits, and
kangeiko, as ever, does their layers and hearts justice.

And just because I changed my layout this year doesn't mean I love Arvin Sloane any less, either. Seasons of Change presents his and Jack Bristow's relationship through the years, in short, pointed vignettes, Jack's pov, and it's so true for both of them. *flails*

Date: 2008-10-11 04:39 pm (UTC)I feel like I missed out on the awesomeness of Donna, because I only saw a few of her episodes, what with any thing or another, and I did love her to bits. I'm going to have to invest in S4, I see, and watch it through properly. (It'll have to be, er, after I invest in S2 and S3, and watch them through properly. Thus far I've only seen S1 all the way through. I fail.)

Date: 2008-10-12 08:26 am (UTC)*g* I didn't aquire s1 until it became available for a reasonable price here in Germany. Still haven't rewatched more than two episodes. Nine is just not my Doctor, and Rose is not one of my companions, either, and the dvd box sets are pretty expensive, so the first one I bought was 3, and I already pre-ordered 4. If you were living in the same country, I could lend the dvds to you, but alas...

I've decided that, while I like DW plenty, I'm more likely to rewatch other stuff. So I only bought S1 recently, when I found it for a snip (£25, at zaavi, or zavvi, or whatever it's called). S2-S4 will have to wait. I could do it through torrent, I suppose, but there's so much other stuff to watch first! (Mad Men, at the moment...)

Date: 2008-10-11 05:44 pm (UTC)I do have Pest Control, but I fear David Tennant isn't as good as Donna Noble as he is as Jackie Tyler on The Stone Rose. And I know from JE that Catherine Tate can do
anythinga great Ten.*looks at wallet again*
