Sure, the art is still ugly, but the story and the interaction more than makes up for it. This was Hank's issue to shine, and what I love is that you're not just told he's smart, he gets to show it, and not just by being his gloriously verbose self. Using Unit precisely by counting on the entity's duplicity, using the mercenary conveniently close by as well to break his girlfriend out of jail, it was all such fun to read, while at the same time this issue didn't make light of the seriousness of the situation, and added emotional depth everywhere. Starting with Gyrich, who is refreshingly not-mustache-twirling; Unit's backstory is suitably chilling - and btw, since elsewhere we're getting a glimpse of the Celestial in San Francisco (hooray for inner Marvelverse continuity!), this makes me wonder whether Unit's creators were either Celestials or one branch of the Eternals and this was a reminder of their existence - and a great example of how "I'm doing this for the greater good" can be ever so more scary a motivation than "I'm doing this to hurt you, muwahaha". Best of all, we got two very telling glimpses at Abigail Brand's non-actionwoman side. First, there's her concern for her brother (and quite right, too, as it turns out he is indeed on Gyrich's aliens-to-catch list); irritant that he is, she does care, as Hank concludes; secondly, there is what happens at the end.
Now I had expected that immediately after the break-out, there would be an alien invasion, forcing Brand and Gyrich to work together. Instead, we get a great twist on this; the aliens who just accidentally invaded aren't malevolent or threatening, which is why Gyrich will leave them to Norman Osborn, who won't care about intentions and will just wipe them out. Which makes Abigail Brand go back to the Earth they've just escaped from. To save the aliens. No wonder this is when Hank proposes. *loves the stituation, my agent with her reluctantly ethical core and the two of them*
Neat trivia: the girl Hank was briefly talking to was Karolina, right? And Lockheed continues to be the coolest X-dragon ever. Kitty will be proud of him.
