In which my favourites don't show up, but I'm entertained anyway. Also, if they keep something spoilery up, I might even forgive the demise of a ca certain non-regular but recurring character in s4.

So, back in s5, it occured to me that there are some parallels between Kate and Ben I hadn't seen before we got the young Ben episodes and also Ben's life and times ep complete with Alex scenes on the one hand, and Kate's Aaron-related storyline on the other, to wit: they're both children of abusive parents who ended up killing their fathers, they both stole and saved their (non-biological) children, they both lied about being the bio parent, both their children had still existing biological parents. Otherwise, the characters aren't much alike, but those parallels were interesting. What I hadn't counted on and what was a really nifty surprise in the latest episode was that the show would also make Claire and Danielle Rousseau parallels. Of course, if you think about it, some said parallels were there before, with both women arriving pregnant on the island, delivering their child there. "What happened to Claire?" was on of the big unanswered questions from s4. She was last seen by Locke in Jacob's cabin with the late Christian Shephard, and then by Kate in what might or might not have been a dream, telling Kate not to bring Aaron back to the island. We didn't know whether she was alive or dead. There were a lot circumstances arguing for "dead" - Claire was the only "survivor" of an explosion which killed everyone else, in a cut scene she asked Hurley after waking up from that one "are we dead?", Miles, who can see dead people, gave her odd looks (which Sawyer interpreted as come-ons), and of course there's the oddity of Claire unhesitatingly following Christian Shephard (or, well, whoever Christian is these days), away from her friends and child. On the other hand, we did not know for sure because as opposed to, say, Locke, Claire's dead body has yet to be spotted anywhere.

Now we've got some new evidence, and very intriguing evidence it is. On the one hand, it appears Claire followed Rousseau's footsteps and became essentially her: the solitary woman left on the island, laying traps and having become an expert at weapons because she had to. Now, mere physical interaction doesn't prove Claire is alive. Not!Locke, aka Smokey, was able to eat fruit, remember, as well as perform other physical interactions with living peope, like, say, knocking Richard out. But something he couldn't do was actually kill people when in human form. Whereas Claire, going by her shooting the two Others, has no problem with this. On the other, there's Japanese Guy's (I know he mentioned his name, but I can't remember it right now) claim that Claire has been "taken over by darkness, and all (she) was is gone". Which would relate her not to Rousseau but to Danielle's team members. Except that Japanese Guy & friends are hardly the most trustworthy source of information. (Though it's interesting that they know Jack and Claire are half siblings. This was something these two did not know while they were both on the island; Jack only found out later at his father's burial service via Claire's mother. Claire might or might not know via Christian-or-whoever-he-is by now. So how come the Others are aware of this? I'm thinking either via Jacob or Smokey, who know by virtue of being supernatural entities.) Especially not on the whole good/bad situation. If anything, this show specializes in showcasing how everyone is shades of grey from s3 onwards. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole Jacob/Smokey dichotymy is like the Ben/Charles Widmore one. Or, if you allow me the B5 geekery, like Vorlons and Shadows, in which case the solution is to get rid of them both. Claire being "filled with darkness" in their opinion might not mean anything more but Claire not being on their side. HOWEVER. If Claire is indeed around (alive-ish, dead, undead, whatever) the same way Sayid currently is, which is what the Others are claiming, then we FINALLY have the somewhat sexist Island performing the resurrection gig for a female character. (Previously, miracle healings and surrections seemed to happen only to male ones.) Which I'm all for. So - can't wait to find out more about Claire in the Lost Prime timeline.

Meanwhile, in the Rebootverse, we have Claire and Kate bonding, which is what I hoped would happen. Yes, it's stretching suspension of disbelief that Claire would get back into the car with Kate, but you can blame pregnancy hormones, plus this is Claire before and without the island; she hasn't learned yet to be paranoid. And lo and behold, we have an episode where two (and a few times, given the odd wannabe adoptive mother, nurse, policewoman, three) women are in the same scene and never once talk of romance. Incidentally, I don't take Kate's "if I told you I was innocent, would you believe me?" question as a sign Kate is indeed innocent in the Reboot!verse. Note that after Claire's "Yes, I would", she doesn't say whether or not she is, plus Kate isn't exactly given to telling the truth to new aquaintances in any timeline. The title of this episode, "What Kate Does" is an obvious play on the s2 episode "What Kate Did" (in which we found out she killed her adopted-and-biological father), though I actually don't think the current title refers to her killing, or lack of same. What Kate does is run, in the Prime timeline, and in the Reboot timeline. What Kate also does is come back in Reboot!Lostverse, in order to help Claire. In the Primeverse, this was her reason for returning to the island, though not the only one why she leaves the temple. So far, scenes with Sawyer (and even Jack) are refreshingly free of past triangle stupidity; the ones with Sawyer were about Juliet and their part of responsibility for her fate, and were quiet instead of melodramatic, and there was just one quick exchange with Jack. If that's the tone for their scenes this season, I don't mind them, though what I really want to see is Kate having scenes with Claire in the Prime!verse as well.

Trivia: ah, good old Ethan. Is he still the record holder for Lost character with the most post mortem appearances, or has Christian surpassed him? Ethan's appearance as Claire's doctor in the Rebootverse reminded me that baby Ethan along with the other children of the island was evacuated in 1977 in the hours before the bomb went off, which means that I was wrong in my season opener review when remarking that Ben is dead in the Rebootverse. Which means we'll get to see Alt!Benjamin Linus at some point. I hope. Who Ben would have been without the island is definitely something I'm interested in.

In conclusion: if Claire really has become the next Rousseau and survived by island miracle and survives the show, I'm inclined to forgive my poor Danielle R. was cruelly killed off in s4.

George: The Philosopher

20 George, 6 John, 13 Paul, and 6 Ringo

Georges are reserved, contemplative and practical individuals. But they also have a dark side. Despite having a tendency towards being introverted, Georges have a strong independent streak. They won't push too hard, but they prefer to have things done their way. Georges occasionally have social reservations, but in the confines of comfortable settings, they can be quite gregarious and charming. Georges prefer smaller, more comfortable social situations. Georges often have dark, edgy senses of humour but they don't immediately share this side of themselves with everyone.

Ooookay. Not really into the whole Indian meditation thing, but I suppose I can see it. Mind you, the questions in that test were pretty obvious. The John ones especially could be spotted a mile away.
