A look at the internet tells me today is non-TOS-Star Trek day. Now I've written both meta and fanfiction galore about DS9 and TNG, and even a little bit of the former about Voyager and Enterprise, too much to link it all. But a few posts, to celebrate my first fandom(s):

To boldly go: celebrating TNG, DS9 and Voy via Youtube clips when the nostalgia hit me big time in the winter of 2008.

Child of Two Worlds: how Star Trek used the "between two cultures" archetype for various characters post-Spock and TOS in sometimes very different and sometimes similar ways.

Missing DS9: very specific nostalgia around the time of the BSG finale. Contains praise of the DS9 females and the Sisko.

DS9 and terrorism: watching the show in a post 9/11 world. One of the earliest DS9 essays I wrote. Note: this was composed before BSG was broadcast. After, I would have modified some statements re: what's possible on today's American tv, but most of it still holds up, imo.

Five things meme replies for Quark and Picard: just in case you're curious about Federation songs Quark doesn't dislike and regrets Picard has.

Everybody comes to Quark's: my [profile] idol_reflection essay about my favourite DS9 guy. Yes, even counting Garak. (My favourite DS9 woman is Jadzia Dax, if you're curious.) (Doesn't mean I don't love the rest as well.)

The Acquisitive Fangirl's Guide to Ferengi Episodes : the Ferengi are probably the most controversial and/or disliked element of DS9, but, as you can see above, I love not just Quark but also his family (Rom, Nog and Ishka). My favourite episodes with them, and what I see in those eps.

****

Trek fic rec of the day: The Battle of Betazed, through the conversations of Lwaxana Troi. Takes place during the last two DS9 seasons, covers something referred to but which we didn't see on screen, demonstrates why Lwaxana rocks and brings in some TNG characters as well.

Thank you so much for all these links! Your essay on DS9 and terrorism was spot-on. Now I'm reading your Quark essay, which does such a good job pointing out Quark's complexities. Ah, DS9. Most awesome Trek ever :D

Got here via a link on my network and just want to say thanks. I've just started watching DS9 (in order and not just random episodes at least) so it's very exciting to get linked to older meta. Thanks.
