They came to English attention at roughly the same time, had a canon on screen crossover two years later, and it's been a mutually inspiring relationship ever since: Doctor Who and the Beatles. I was aware of two or three vids but have found out there are actually a lot more by now. Some of the most entertaining I found:

First of all, that canon crossover from the First Doctor era, aka DW producers expressing faith in the long term success of that Liverpudlian group that's been making a splash for the last two years. As [profile] meri_sefket said, this was like a current day tv show confidently declaring Lady Gaga will be known two hundred years later. Also, Ian rocking to the tune of Ticket To Ride will never get old. (Sidenote: one of the comments to this clip on YouTube declared that "the Doctor could have saved John Lennon". Firstly, not unless he's Ten in the later Waters of Mars headspace, and secondly, this made me wonder about John-as-Adelaide-Brooke, which is a rather bizarre mental image.)

Moving on to creative use by Beatles songs in current day vids. Someone with a wicked sense of humour and too many Beatles tunes at their disposal (not that there is such a thing as too many!) remastered that phonecall scene from Sound of Drums by replacing the Master's parts of the dialogue with... well, you'll see. :)

Is that not one of the best things ever? On a more serious note, here's A Day in the Life used for a vid that covers the first four Doctors. Two, or rather Jamie getting the "the English army had just won the war" line was inspired, and I was much amused Three got the Paul section of the song.

If you think there wasn't enough Two in the above, here he gets all of A Hard Day's Night to himself. And it's an alternate take on AHDN from Anthology, too.

One and Two are both vidded to Help!:

Someone did Magical Mystery Tour for the show entire, which is a great choice, but I wasn't that keen on the result, which is mostly because of my lukewarm attitude towards a certain 'ship. On the other hand, All Together Now which is the lesser song (just a throwaway ditty from the White Album) was made into a splendid vid about Doctors One to Ten, with bonus Eleven at the end:

The first DW vid to a Beatles song that I ever watched remains a firm favourite for me, and is still my most beloved vid about Donna and the Doctor: I've Just Seen A Face:

Nowhere Man was vidded as a Doctor character portrayal, which is a good song choice but the result felt too static. On the other hand, Fool on the Hill made for an interesting character portrait as well. This vidder evidently likes Nine and Six best, which makes for some original transitions:

[personal profile] maia pointed me towards the next one. Back when I wrote my own take on Lucy Saxon, I just had to use Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds as a title, so I'm not surprised a vidder used the song as well. (Wouldn't be suprised if it had lurked somewhere in RTD's subconscious when writing the relevant episodes, either.)

Lastly, not a musical vid, but very enjoyable to watch. When the late George Harrison received a postumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the speech was made by Eric Idle, which given both that George Harrison had supported Monty Python financially and that Eric Idle was the main creator of the Beatles parody The Rutles was an inspired choice. He was both funny and touching:

Brilliant! I don't have time to watch all of these now, but I have bookmarked this to come back to. I loved All Together Now and the first Doctor listening to the Beatles... I've heard of Barbara and Ian, btw, but who is the other girl?
