Trufax: I rewatched X-Men: First Class with a couple of gay male friends. Genre fans. Romantics. Also married to each other, last year, after years of living together. And afterwards I asked them about Charles/Erik. Whereupon they told me they hadn't been able to see the slash with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen and weren't able to see it in the McAvoy/Fassbender combination, either. "Look," says one of them, "you just don't understand close male friendship."

("Eine Männerfreundschaft" was the original German phrase, if you have to know.)

Which just goes to show that we truly do all watch different films. (And tv shows, and books, etc.) I mean, I don't see the slash everywhere, I truly don't, but Xavier's and Magneto's relationship in its various incarnations is just one of those cases where it just doesn't make sense for me to assume a platonic relationship, and if even the actors agree with one there...

Anyway: fanfic rec time! Since everyone has been thankfully busy scribbling First Class fanfiction. BTW, if you feel like catching up with X-Men movieverse classics, [personal profile] andraste has finished her fabulous page of over a hundred recs, here. On to the new stuff.

Wait to watch the fire: They are not the children of fairytales. An Erik pov throughout the film.

Getting to know you: I knew people would write Charles/Erik after the film, but I was hoping for young Mystique fanfiction as well, and was thrilled fandom obliged. This one is about her sibling-and-yet-not-siblingesque relationship with Charles, which I'm rapidly as much emotionally invested in as in C/E, going from their shared childhood to the time after the film, Raven's pov.

Headstrong: more Raven and Charles, this one from Charles' pov. Has a great, plausible take on the reason why Raven made Charles promise not to read her mind (it has to do with how he got his mother to accept the new addition to the family, is all I'm saying...) .

Five lessons Charles taught (and one he learned): Hooray for ensemble fic! Is about what it says on the label.

Five minds Charles never read (and one he did): ditto.

The Adventures of Young Charles Xavier and the Big Blue Box: crossover with Doctor Who. We never saw how Charles learned to control his telepathy as a child. Here, he runs into the (Tenth) Doctor and Donna a year before he meets Raven. Starts funny and ends emotional and chilling, which fits the Whoverse.

From the waters and the wild: and then there are times in which one is in the mood for a PWP. This is a deliciously hot missing scene between Charles and Erik provided by [personal profile] linaerys.

Lastly, if you're in the mood for meta: I liked this one a lot. .

Oooooo, recs! *claps hands* I don't have a long history with the X-Men fandom like most of the people on my flist seem to have, but I saw and loved the film, and was just cautiously starting to look around for fanfiction, so the timing of this is perfect! And seeing as I love gen and ensemble fic as well as slash, this looks like a great mix of characters and genres. Hooray! *skips off to read*

I just saw the movie, so I wanted to thank you for compiling these recs, which I plan to take full advantage of.
