Fandom as Love Interests, Revisited
Aug. 19th, 2011 09:55 pmHaven't done this one in a while, and since I acquired a few new fandoms (and so did my friends), let's have another go:
The one who seduced you, screwed you over, broke your heart in a million pieces, and laughed about it.
Heroes, alas.
The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp
Babylon 5 and ST: DS9. Oh, my space stations, I will always love you and enjoy our occasional meetings tremendously.
The mysterious dark one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 AM at weird coffee houses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized s/he really was fucking crazy.
Lost with the qualification that I always knew s/he was crazy; that was part of hir charm, and simply remained so. I just had underestimated the sheer extent of the crazy. But it wasn't a problem for me. Now and then, I enjoy the madder side of things. :)
The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor and whom you'd still really like to get with again, although you're relieved s/he doesn't actually live in town
The Jossverse, especially the BtVS and AtS part of it.
The steady
One year onwards, and my renewed Beatles fannishness shows no sign of going into remission again, though I have no doubt it will sooner or later. But right now, we're really steady, indeed.
The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with
Fringe. I mean, I enjoy the show minus a few caveats re: events and characterisation in the third season, and I'm very much looking forward to the next one, but I never felt inspired to write stories, and only in between watching s1 and s2 was trying to find some to read.
The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with, but ultimately you're just good buddies
Damages. I mean, I'm really fond of it (when I can get hold on the episodes, which is not always). And I enjoy writing my reviews. But as with Fringe, the urge to write fanfic just isn't there.
The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool person except it's never really gone anywhere
The Prisoner. I'm sorry,
jesuswasbatman!
The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at them and thinking, "How the hell did they land all these cool people?"
Supernatural. Also A Song of Ice and Fire, to a lesser degree.
The one who gave you the best damned summer of your life and against whom you measure all other potential partners:
Highlander: The Series. Not my first fandom but the first in which I got really creative, the one that introduced me to several really good friends who remained with me, and the one that (probably because I made sure not to watch any of the films after the disaster that was the second one) never disillusioned me while I was in it.
The one you recently met at a party and would like to get to know better:
Sanctuary. I finally got my hands on the s1 dvds and am looking forward to watching them. The premise intrigues me.
The old flame that you wouldn't totally object to hooking up with again for a one night romp if only they'd clean up a bit:
Marvel comics.
Your hot new flame:
Merlin. (Beatles fandom doesn't count, since it's an old fandom revived!)
The one who stole your significant other:
Err, I'm too polyamorous in my fannish life to have one s.o.?
