Hamburg, the belle of the North, presented itself in the best light yesterday. Sunshine, no wind, and my hotel room had a drop-dead gorgeous view over the Alster. And I got to see a great exhibition about the Etruscans. Today, it's Geesthacht, a small town about an hour away from Hamburg, and we're gone from mansions to red-brick small houses, which are pretty in their way as well. (And I still have a view - over the Elbe this time.)

In between landscape admiring and working, I managed to watch the two remaining Firefly episodes I had not seen on the American DVDs which [livejournal.com profile] bimo had brought along last weekend - turns out they work on my laptop, if not my DVD player. My grief and rage re: cancellation is as acute as ever. (Also: be an actor whom Joss likes, be rescued from unemployment for life. And you know, Jonathan Woodward is as good as Tracey as he was as Holden; Knox pales in comparison.)

Heart of Gold reminded me again that we'll never get to find out about Inara's backstory, which suddenly intrigues me as much as Book's does. And I wonder how the Mal/Nandi one-night stand ties with [livejournal.com profile] londonkds' Mal theory. Never mind whatever has people in an uproar about the Angel finale (am still spoiler-clean and would like to remain this way) - I want more Firefly.

Oh, damn, yes. Yes. Yes. I lost my heart to Firefly. I have never fallen so fast or so hard for a show in my adult life. I've got pirate DVDs, but I'm now pining for the REAL DVDs, with commentaries and all. Isn't 'The Message' terrific? And 'War Stories'? And 'Out of Gas'? And... actually, this could go on a while. And word on the wistfulness about Inara's backstory. I also crave Book backstory, and River. Oh, and don't get me STARTED on how much I adore Simon.

Ahem. Yes. Issues.

They all are, and I'm so grateful that [livejournal.com profile] bimos American DVDs work on my very European laptop so I can admire.

Just watched the deleted scenes. If that scene from Our Mrs. Reynolds where River proposes to Simon and Simon says only on bad planets do brothers and sisters do that had hit the air, the fans would have gone crazy.*g*

Oh! Damn. I need to run out the door. I'll be back an hour or so, at which point I'll e-mail you with the thing, and post the other thing.

Meanwhile, I want Book's backstory so bad I've considered writing it. *g*

Consider some further, but only after you've emailed and posted.*g*

I got the Firefly DVD's last Friday and I can't seem to stop watching them. I desperately hope that the film leads to a reborn TV show because I really, really, really want to know both Inara and Book's backstory and why the Alliance did what they did to River.

The commentaries make it all worse. When she got out the syringe as they were waiting for the reavers to attack, Joss blithely says something to the effect of, "Oh yeah, everybody thought that was a suicide thing for companions, and that's a fine explanation, but it's not at all what I had in mind." Argh. The possibilities for her and for Book are just so myriad. I'm afraid the movie will only make the pain worse.
