I got up half an hour ago so could spend the same biting nails until a few minutes ago, when, OH THE RELIEF.

Not that Obama is perfect, but the current Republican Party is such a disaster in every area I care about, and the memories of the Bush years are so vividly horrible, that this non-American feels like dancing with her morning tea in hand right now. Speaking of Dubya, this is just too beautiful not to be true, linked via meret: Bush accidentally voted for Obama. Those nasty voting machines confused him. I'm sure a lot of Floridan voters empathize, George W.

A solid defeat for the side that was trying to disenfranchise voters is completely deserved. I'm so relieved, and even more relieved that it all happened in the daylight hours here and I didn't have to try to sleep not knowing!

Oh my god, yes!!!!!

I was reporting on local races tonight, but as soon as I finished those, I came home, took off my objective hat and screamed with joy when the electoral college number hit 273 after Ohio. (Of course, the Koch boys and Karl Rove are insisting that Ohio can't be called. In fact, Rove was trying, on air on Fox, to get the Fox numbers guys to rescind their (undoubtedly reluctant) call for Obama in Ohio.

What a pack of putzes.

German tv didn't even try to disguise their bias. The moderator of one of our two public networks fell around the neck of her fellow moderator and said "women won, gays won, sanity won, thank GOD!". :)

Now if Washington comes through for marriage equality, I will just be having a fantastic year politically. :D

ETA: Minnesota and Maryland, looked it up.

Yep! Minnesota is weird, because while same-sex marriage is already illegal there, they wanted to lock it down even more with a definition of marriage (the same as 30 other states have--gah, this country!). And for the first time the voters said, "Um, no." So I think the tide is visibly turning, now.
