selenak: (Regina and Snow by Endofnights)
[personal profile] selenak
As I had fun doing this one for other beloved shows the last few times:

Try to write different categories of fic (angst, fluff, UST, etc) in one sentence.

Spoiler: Mostly for the first season, though some vague ones for Child of the Moon, Queen of Hearts and In the Name of the Brother from season 2 as well.

Disclaimer: Everything is owned by the mighty House of Mouse and ABC.

Rating: PG 13.

Angst

Sometimes, Snow wonders what her father would have done if she had talked to him instead of Cora, had told him Regina did not want him and loved another; in her darkest hours, she is certain her father would have let Regina go, and that this was why she, longing to keep Regina with them, never breathed a word.

AU

Having planned so carefully, Rumplestilskin found it incredibly humiliating to be foiled by a love struck genie who had wasted his final wish on demanding a selfless, contended life for Regina for the rest of her days.

Crackfick

"...and that's why we demand the duck slaughter in this town to end immediately, Sheriff," Donald ended, and Huey, Dewey and Louie nodded indignantly while Emma wished more fervently than ever Henry had gotten adopted by someone from harmless towns like Castle Rock or Derry.

Crossover (Once upon a time/ American Gothic)

"And so," Regina purred, "I nominated our very own Sheriff Swan to run against Sheriff Lucas Buck for the Sheriff-of-the-Year award at the annual convention down in South Carolina; that's Buck with a B, my dear Miss Swan, and I want you to know whe're all behind you in spirit."

Death

Nobody wanted a mute girl, and so she thought she was lucky when the Dark One hired her as a servant; she thought that until he cut her down, without ever bothering to tell her why.

Episode-Related

When her memories return, Abigail realises the friendship between Kathryn and Regina must have been just another ploy; she should be furious, but instead she feels oddly hollow.

First Time

Red thinks this is because of her grief for Peter and her mother, and the waning moon making her body ache, and because Snow is alone in the woods and has no one else left, but Snow says it's simpler than that, it's them being themselves, and kisses her tears away.

Fluff

"I thought," Nova says hesitatingly, still dressed in Astrid's clothes, while the darkness of the tunnels could not mask Grumpy's wonder and delight, "you might need some candles, and a fairy, since, you know, you're looking for fairy dust."

Humor

Henry was used to people not listening to him, but really, if Frankenstein was real, it just made sense to be on the lookout for Dracula and insist on garlic and crosses in Mary Margaret's apartment, didn't it?

H/C

Offering psychological help to Regina is the equivalent of volunteering to feed a tiger and getting scratched and hissed at at a regular basis, Archie finds, but then again, she's allowed him to forget for 28 years what he'd done to Gepetto's parents, and how much it hurt to know his own never saw him as anything else but a tool to rid people of their money; it's for that unadmittable gratitude that he keeps trying, and her rare and choking confidences relieve him of that newly remembered pain, bit by bit.

Smut

The first night after their return, Snow says someone should find out whether true love's kiss only works when given on the mouth; Charming does his best to aid her in that very thorough investigation.

UST

Not that she'd ever wanted the woman to become Sheriff in the first place, but Regina couldn't help but be annoyed it never seemed to occur to Miss Swan to take over all of Graham's obligations.

I enjoyed these. The last two especially, but also the ouch in your H/C. The crackfic one made me grin and run to Ao3 to look for OUaT/Haven crossovers.

Haven is based on a Stephen King story, which I have not read myself, The Colorado Kid. Haven is a small town in Maine. Both Derry and Castle Rock have both been mentioned in the show as places nearby where nothing weird happens as it does in Haven. Audrey Parker, an FBI agent comes to Haven and to misquote Fraser, "for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, (she) remained, attached as liaison officer with the Haven PD".

This post on Haven by [personal profile] faith_girl222 brought the show to my attention. It's a quick overview of the show and characters and ends with a couple of vids to give you an idea of the content.

There is also a Festivid Haven entry which is very Audrey-centric.

For me, the key thing Haven does and what the show is about identity, how you identify, why you pick the identity you do, and how you are perceived by others. It has an element of forming your own version of family, but mostly it is about identity.

I have now seen every episode and am planning a re-watch soon, I am reading fic like I haven't in ages. I have a very emotional response to this show, it hits me deep in the gut so I can't do more than point the way and urge people to try it. I think it took about 5 episodes before I realized I was hooked. Now, I'm deep in it and it's going to be a while before I try looking for the exit. (The more I think about it, the more Haven reminds me of due South, which may or may not be a positive thing, but I remain very much a fan of Benton Fraser. Fraser and Parker have a lot in common come to think of it.)

That's a lot of rambling. Sorry. I really am newly in love with Haven and can't be objective (or brief)at all.

Awesome. And very true. And I agree with Henry - it makes total</> sense.

(btw, Jane Espenson confirmed that Rumple did have That Scythe among his curiosities in Skin Deep)

These are neat! It's amazing how much story you can pack into a sentence. I particularly liked this one:

Henry was used to people not listening to him, but really, if Frankenstein was real, it just made sense to be on the lookout for Dracula and insist on garlic and crosses in Mary Margaret's apartment, didn't it?

Hee. This is exactly what Henry would do. Especially given that werewolves are already a potential problem.

In a few years, he'll be chatting with Andrew Wells and Marshall Flinkman on the internet. :)

Now there's an alarming thought. Andrew is bound to turn up in Storybrook looking for unicorns ...
