Back from the conference and Berlin, though not yet back in Munich. But with a chance to catch up on some tv, therefore, on with the reviews!

Sorry, couldn't resist the pun with last week's, or rather, two week's ago, Gardnerdämmerung. Also the episode is Diane centric and very much an ode to her, so it fits.

In a minor subplot, one of the fourth years is feeding confidential information, excusing himself with the fact that "Lockhart & Gardner is not my firm anymore". This the episode contrasts with Diane's final decision at the end of the episode, telling Will the truth she discovered/figured out about Alicia leaving, despite the fact Lockhart & Gardner isn't hers anymore and despite the way she was made to leave. Then again, it's not as clear cut as that, Diane's loyalty to the firm she build and to Will as the former partner trumping feelings of vengeance; imo it's also a question of Diane's queenship, in lack of a better term. Alicia leaving L & G would have happened, or rather, would be imminently happening even if Diane and Will hadn't fallen out. I.e. she is the unruly subject betraying the queen (remember Diane's reaction last year when Alicia & the fourth years were asking for better terms?), and if any dismantling of Lockhart & Gardner is going on, Diane is the only one allowed to do that. Most certainly not an underling (who is about to become a rival queen).

After being shown up by a teen, it inevitably follows Eli is shown up by Jackie again. Truly, any tension in an Eli subplot is the eternal question whether the character will be allowed to be competent more than once a season. Back to the Diane plot, which was more fun. I am glad she went through with the marriage instead of backing out at the last moment, not least because it enhances my confidence the show won't employ the reset button with its other plots, either, and also because Christine Baranski and Gary Cole really have fantastic chemistry, and as characters, Diane and Kurt are just so enjoyable to watch.

Now: since the cat is finally out of the back, bring on the explosions and the final departures. (Though I'm still speculating, despite what I said about no reset buttons, that Diane might end up giving up on the judgeship now in order to save her old firm.)
