In which Owen is a misguided shipper, but I don't care because my own favourite platonic duo just became an even better platonic trio.

Seriously, though: I squeed already when Clark Haydon, Nathan Lane himself showed up again, and was profoundly happy when he volunteered to join Florick & Agos. I had liked Haydon (Hayden? Can't remember how he was spelled) last season already and thought Diane was horrid to him when he was doing his level best to save her firm. Also I thought his delight at lawyering and bonding with Cary was adorable. So now he's back, saving the day by the power of Accountant Fu because he likes... the law. (And Cary. And Alicia.) I could not be happier. It balanced out Owen, whom I'm usually very fond of, too, being an Alicia/Will cheerleader and taking it upon himself to go to Will and tell him Alicia only wanted her own law firm because she wants Will so badly. Now in my more cynical moments, I think we're hearing the authorial voice here, given that Alicia did have an attack of Will longing in the two or three eps leading up to her decision, but in my more hopeful moments I think the narrative wants us to think it's more complicated than that, i.e. that while Alicia's occasional Will lust did contribute to her decision to go, her witnessing Lockhart & Gardner at its most dysfunctional last season, Will & Diane at their most paranoid, and then Will at his most vengeful (vis a vis Diane) all were factors as well, and above all: she really did want her own law firm, and she knew that in Cary she'd have a partner, whereas with Will at L & G she'd always have a boss.

As a reconciliatiatory gesture to Will fans: he was being a good lawyer to his client in this episode. I'm assuming we'll see more of this case during the rest of the season, btw, and wouldn't be surprised if, given that Diane just got one of the associates to testify falsely against Alicia via a bribe, the retaliation will be F & A going after that client (especially since Alicia knows him of old). That they're keeping it ambigous whether he is guilty (as Kalinda and the DNA testing assume) or innocent (as he protests, and as Will believes) reminds me of the good old s1 days.

Zack and Grace subplot: okay, after two weeks of "what is the point of this?" with Grace chatting with Other Cary, this week's episode with a hacker from their school spying on her via webcam hacking and Zack tracking him down and defending his sister's honor has the advantage of involving sibling dynamics, which I'm always fond of. Also the misunderstanding as to who was "ratting" on the Florick computers led to the hilarious scene of Hayden and Cary acting (badly) for what they assumed was Diane's, David Lee's and Will's benefit.

Loved Cary being supportive of Alicia throughout. And did I mention I'm over the moon with the new triad of Alicia-Cary-Hayden? GO TEAM! I admit I used to think Louis Canning would be Alicia's and Cary's David Lee, as Canning and Lee are a match in gleeful amorality, but lovable Super Accountant In Nathan Lane Shape is even better.

...now can we get Will being sued for alimony by the blonde next?
