Alsace Pic Spam
May. 14th, 2014 05:14 pmThe Alsace, or Elsass, is certainly one of the most beautiful parts of France, very easy to reach from Germany (you just cross the Rhine, which doesn't form much of the border nowadays, but just there it does), and the quaint old towns and vineyards await. I crossed the border and was swept away, photographically speaking.
Obernai was the first town I visited. Incidentally, the weather right now and certainly yesterday was and is a wild mixture of sunhine and rain, but luckily whenever I got out of the car for some sight seeing, the rain stopped. It did occasionally start before I got back into the car, but hey.

Riquewihr was next. It is famous for its outer walls:

Then you get into the town:

In Riquewihr, I spotted the first of many Alsatian storks:

And also a calico cat:

Next, it was Eguisheim's term:

This is the central square.

Can you stop the stork on the roof of the church?

How about the other one?

One stork on the roof, one in flight:

Ready for your close-up, storks?

And finally, I visited Colmar . It's bigger than the previous three, and the buildings come across as more stately, but still very beautiful:

Here is the Maison des Tetes (House of the heads):

Canals for the river Lauch are everywhere. Here's St. Martin (called a "cathedral" by the locals, even though the guide book informs me it isn't one) in the background:

And like my hometown Bamberg, they have a Little Venice, which concludes my pic spam:
