Fanfiction
Jun. 13th, 2003 12:10 pmA plot bunny about Darla and Connor has been hunting me for months now, and yesterday I finally gave in and wrote the story. While I'm waiting for it to be beta'd, I found several excellent X2 fanfics.
This is Pyro's pov on living with Magneto and Mystique and starting life as a terrorist. What I appreciate about Sarah T's stories, whether they are set in the Jossverse or in Smallvilledom or now among the Mutants, is that she lets the original source's ambigious characters remain ambigious. (Or that rarer other extreme of fanfic, turning them into blacker-than-black supervillains with no redeeming trait whatsoever.) One feels for them, but there is no white washing. Her stories also avoid one of my pet peeves in fanfic; no matter whether they are with or without sexual interludes, one never feels their entire point was getting character A in bed with character B.
Given Mystique's shapeshifting abilities and Xavier's telepathy, it was only a question of time until someone combined the two for the Magneto/Mystique-as-Xavier scenario which already turned up after the first movie.
astolat did so splendidly. However, I kept wondering about Mystique's pov and motivations on the entire thing. (One of the great things about X2 was Mystique's enlarged role, which made it clear she was by no means a simple minion and had her own strong relationship with Magneto.) So imagine my joy when I found Mystique's thoughts on the entire affair here.
