In which unexpected cliffhanger is unexpected.
I take it the reason why we see Sherlock in bed with the women at the start is that this is superbowl week in the US. Otherwise, it was back to "case of the week" after the conclusion of the Kitty arc, and I'm missing Kitty already. Though as cases of the week go, it was an okay one, with an underlying optimism about human nature (both Steven and his wife eventually decided NOT to pursue a debt).
The subplot about Joan realising she's not in love with Andrew despite Andrew (and his father) being perfect felt a bit by the numbers and there to prepare for Joan's eventual return to the Brownstone... right until the very last scene, at which point it felt like preparation for massive Joan angst and a guilt trip instead, since Andrew immediately after being dumped dramatically dies on her due to what seems to be poisoning of Joan's cup of latte which Andrew drank by mistake. Now I'm thinking overkill, no bad pun intended, because Joan would have felt compelled to clear up Andrew's murder in any case, without the guilt trip of having decided to end her relationship with him immediately before.
Otoh: the poisoning makes me immediately suspect Joan's arch nemesis from the season opener, whom we haven't seen again since and whose enmity towards Joan was so pointedly established there. At a guess, now she's back. Possibly with Moriarty as an alternate suspect/red herring (i.e. I don't think she'd have a minion poisoning Joan, she'd do it herself if she wanted to because of the whole outwitted thing, but if the show does want to bring her back, making her one of the suspects in an attempted Watson killing would be a way).
Back to this episode: Watson going through alternate roommates for Holmes was worth it for the Bell/Holmes exchange on the subject alone. :) Also Holmes shows that while unable to resist tactless discussions of Watson's love life, he did grow up somewhat by not even pretending anymore he wants to be alone, as opposed to openly admitting he works better with someone who lives with him.
In conclusion: I miss Kitty.

Date: 2015-02-06 06:54 pm (UTC)Actually I was hoping for some Holmes/Bell roommate shenanigans. Although realistically Bell would kill him on Day Two.
