Back from Leipzig, en route to Munich, very exhausted. Elementary with its subplot about Joan's mother possibly getting dementia or Alzheimer managed to handle this with restraint and without mawkishness, though between Terry Prattchet and my general fear of seeing this happen to people I care about I wibbled regardless. The Holmes & Watson friendship shone again. They really are among my favourite incarnations of the pair ever.

Case of the week: so bizarre that it's probably from the headlines. The actor who played the movie-obsessed leukemia guy seemed vaguely familiar - where could I have encountered him before?

I haven't seen the episode, but if the character's name was Vance Ford, he was played by Patrick Breen, who has been in pretty much everything. You might know him from Galaxy Quest, he played one of the aliens.

Thanks for pointing out the topic of the subplot, btw. Someone I know is watching the show, and since their mother is suffering from dementia, she will surely appreciate a warning that it might be too close to home.

So far, it's only possible dementia or Alzheimer's; the challenge in the subplot was to persuade her to go see a doctor, because she was in complete denial about it.

Holmes & Watson as a pair make me so happy! I'm glad to see them getting back into a good rhythm.
